Hi all,

Long time visitor to this forum, which has been great and helped me out a lot.

Current ride is a 1299 and have owned (too) many bikes before including '13 1199R, 1098, 749, '12 RSV4, two GSXR 1000's K5 & K6, and couple of others.

Looking forward to being part of the community.

Just curious how you find the Ducati compared to your jap bikes? The 1299 is my first Ducati, and I am fond of its looks but am still unsure of the power delivery ( for my riding style) and am thinking I just found my R1's so much easier to ride to the limit.

Looking at your past affair with bikes it's clear you like Ducati :)

To be honest, I found my '05 Gixxer that I just sold (would've kept but couldn't justify 2 rides) to have a broader spread of torque on the street, and that's with the 1299 Race mode and DTC/DWC off. But to be fair, I had an exhaust and custom tuned PC3 vs. the 1299 which I'm still breaking. I'm planning on getting the new Termi slip-ons and may change sprocket down the road, so shall see.

Agree with you on Ducati's looks...sound, rumble are what keeps pulling me back:)...

Aside from my Gixxers, I had a 954 as well and liked the rawness and instant throttle response. Don't have any experience with the newer japanese bikes, although would like to have tried a cross-plane R1.

I agree on the 05 gixxer 1000. it was one of my favorite bikes.

Even though this was to the OP, thought I would chime in, that was my initial impression of the 1299 S.

I am now 1500 miles on the bike, and everyone I ride with says I ride the 1299 S faster than my R1. I haven't taken it on the track yet to really quantify a time comparison, but they say I am riding the 1299 S about 5-10 MPH faster in the twists than I did the R1. I still haven't gotten my brake rotors off to Brake Tech yet, as I have been putting miles on the bike riding it. I find I hit the rev limiter a lot just due to the fact of the lower limit, but I can feel the difference in torque for sure, but still feel the lack of top end.

My R1 still handles better than 1299, but once I get a few more things done, I am sure the 1299 will be on the same level for corner entry and feel.

I still "feel" faster on the R1, but I am told I am riding the 1299 faster.
