Hi all,

I have a local line on a 2014 1199 R. One owner bike, original parts, Termi race exhaust system installed. The bike was never down, and I'd rate the condition as excellent plus. The bike has a little over 600 miles on it, and has not yet had the 'first 600 mile' service.

Anyway, my questions are:

1) The asking price is 24K, but he says he is open to offers. What do you guys think --- is 24K a fair price? If not, what do you think would be a fair offer?

2) Another dealer has a couple of leftover 2015 Panigale R bikes, that they are selling for just a bit over 28K. Would one of these be worth considering for a few K more?

3) The bike is a consignment sale at a local Ducati dealer; if I were to buy it, do I have any option for some kind of Ducati warranty? If not, how risky would this purchase be?

Thanks in advance for any info!

$24k isn't out of line for a bike that fresh. Depending on where your located you can find better deals. I got my 14R with 2500 miles for $19,999. I'd offer him $23k if you don't grab BBB's. I'd grab that deal first. You can buy a five year aftermarket warranty for under $1000 almost anywhere.

Any particular aftermarket warranty providers that folks recommend? Any particular ones to avoid?

I have mine through RPM One. Unfortunately had to use it twice so far, but never had any issues with them and my dealer said they received a payment within a few days for the work performed.

Honestly I can't even remember the one I got. Just call your local Ducati dealers and ask which ones they accept. Easier to start that way.

you should consider BBB first if you don't live too far. even if you have to transport it, the total price would still be cheaper then what you are paying at the dealer.

if you're buying from the dealer, they'll charge you tax on the full price and title fee and all that crap. if you buy it from BBB, you can negotiate a lower price on the title so that you won't have to pay that much tax when you register it at DMV. but overall that price of $24K is pretty fair, i would offer them $22K to start off at and negotiate from there.

plus it looks like BBB has some really nice goodies on his bike already.

Thanks for the input guys, but I think I'll pass on the used Ducati. The local Ducati dealer would only accept RPMOne and only for a max of 3 years. Also, they quoted me a price of about 3K for the 3-year warranty!

15/16 r

Uhh, for 4K more why wouldn't you go for the 15R which is same as 16R? The 15/16R has development well beyond the R before it, much more than 4K can buy you back.

Hard to believe 15R is going for just over 28K brand new when retail is closer to 35K , just sayin....I'd jump right on it

Earlier this year, those leftover '15 R models were down to about 30K...now it is about 28.4K. Maybe they are extra motivated to try and move them now?

I see one in OK and one in Florida for ~29K and 31K respectively. The rest are closer to 33/34K. There does not seem to be many 15s left. Get em while you can.

Ducati westlake sold their last brand new leftover 2014 1199R's for $22,000 full warranty everything.
I don't understand how any of you can say a used 2014 R is worth anywhere near $20,000 let alone $24,000. I've seek 2015 R's sell for $24,000 or less used.

I would not pay $1 over $19,000 for a 2014 1199R

Good info there! I'm looking at the leftover 2015 R models now.

Any of you guys know what changed from the 2014 R to the 2015 R? So far, I found that the 2015 R loses the LED headlamp as well as the semi-active suspension.

Ride them both to tell the differences. IMO, the 15R has a weight advantage improving the ride experience, a handling feel in turns improvement, a braking improvement, power delivery improvement, among others. It is pure race bike not unlike the old R, but much more refined towards race. Everyone on this forum will have a different opinion and the hardcore riders here will invariably customize any bike choice to their own needs and liking. Only you will know which one is for you. As much as I'd like for my bike to be serviceable as a beater and at the same time as exotic as it really is, IMO, you don't get both in one machine here...The R is on the exotic side of bike experience and that is what you are paying for. Oh and did I mention its crazy fast so mature riding attitude is recommended. YMMV.

Not sure where you got your information but both motocorsa and west lake have used 2013 1199R's on their lot for close to $22k. In January when I got mine they had two or three 2014 R's that were priced at $25k. Look at cycle trader. You can't find a 2014 R for under $21k and that's with a few thousand miles. Saying you wouldn't pay over $19 doesn't mean much if you aren't in the market to buy one, and don't have one currently. I don't know if you do or not.

Better suspension, some electronic improvements such as anti wheelie control. I like the 14 nose but I prefer the 15 tail. You going to track or street ride? If she's going to be a street toy i'd take the 14 with LED headlights and electronic adjustable suspension. I upgraded my 14 with the manual ohlins fgrt 203 forks and ttx GP rear shock. They are a step up even over the 15' suspension. I can tell you to have it setup for the track makes it punishing on the roads. If I stopped doing trackdays tomorrow I would sell the fgrt's and run the electronic ohlins with proper springs all day long.

Where can you buy 2015 R for under 24K, please post a link.
