Had a spare pumper at the firehouse for training purpouses with an old 457 gas engine. Pretty much every rookie filled it up with diesel at one point. Only damage is a huge mess with wasted fuel, wasted time to drain everything and you're good to go. It will cough, smoke and detonate a bit but never enough to cause damage.
On the other side; neighbour's wife filled up their diesel Jetta with gasoline which resulted in a brand new engine not covered by either warranty or insurance! They came within a hair to a divorce.

I grew up around trains, so I love it! Plus, 7 passengers, 28mpg @ 85 mph.

I have a diesel X5, it has nice torque too! My wife drives it mostly and somehow, she's not seeing 28mpg. Hmm

I wasn't aware they sold a diesel X5 in the States, nice.

We drove my X5 up to Lake Louise last summer and stopped at a gas station in Kelowna and the diesel nozzle is larger than in the US. I freaked, called the BMW assist and they couldn't figure it out. Recommended I find the closest BMW dealer, which thankfully was in Kelowna. I'm thinking I'm screwed with about an 1/8th of a tank left and the service guy comes out, opens the hatch, reaches into the spare tire area and pulls out an adapter. He says, don't any of your dealers in the US tell you about your cars? I'm thinking RTFM.

Diesel mixed with gas can cause detonation which can lead to catastrophic failure.

You had such a high content though, it may have just caused failure to run and flamed out before any damage could be done.

Drain and flush the system and then give it a go. Proper inspection would be go bore scope the cylinders and see if they look as though they have been bead blasted clean.

Hi,

Thanks for the response...I actually stopped the bike immediately because I knew something was wrong, it was still running very roughly but I stopped the bike and pushed it to somewhere safe.

I have now flushed the fuel out but I have now broken the plastic fuel release nut that goes into the tank...it's going to the workshop now for them to deal with because obviously the challenge was too great for me!!

Will update you when it's back from the workshop

I cant believe I did this, but I put diesel in my bike (What a Dick) and the question is does anyone know if the full termignoni race system has catalytic convertor and if so, what effect will this have on them??
The second question is what should I do to make it all sweet again?

For those who are interested, just had a call from the dealer who is getting the bike sorted and he has called me to tell me that he has flushed tank etc and is replacing the spark plugs but is having difficulty getting to the front one the cost so far is £450 ($682 for you guys over the pond).........

DO NOT PUT DIESEL IN YOU PANIGALE it not only runs badly but it's gonna cost you...I for sure will not do it again!
