five days and 763 miles into Panigale ownership, my ... is killing me. i have the ducati performance ``comfort'' seat but it is not very comfortable. any suggestions about this predicament would be welcome!

on that note, my wrists are killing me too. i guess that's because the raised seat is pushing my center of gravity too far forward any thoughts on this? go back to the stock seat? i've also hear some rearsets can adjust forward, like lightech rearsets -- any others?

finally, i've gotten a lot of false neutrals when i'm doing about 80-85 and i bang up from 5th to 6th with the quick shifter. is this common? should i not use DQS going up into 6th? it causes a pretty serious scare while passing, when the RPM's redline and i'm in the middle of my ``break-in'' period.

(do we really care about RPM's in the second half of break-in? do we really have to keep it under 7,000 up to 2,500km? not happening.)

thanks! matt

I have the DP race seat and find it very comfortable. I've heard in this forum that many comfort seat owners traded for the race seat and are happy.

As far as the false neutral... It happens if you don't shift gears with forceful shoves. Not sure what kind of bikes you had before, but you can't get lazy with Ducati trannys.

Matt,
I took mine out today for the first time to rack up 150 miles and my arse and wrists were sore, mind you I'm 60 years old and I was using the OEM seat. I could do that on my 1098S without any pain. My guess is that our bodies have to get used to the new position and strengthen the muscles needed to support it.

Lowering the shift lever a tad helps with the false neutrals. As for your arse, keep in mind that you did in fact buy a Superbike, not a recliner:rolleyes:

i just went out to check and, indeed, my suspension is set to F. well that will be changing in the morning! thanks so much for the ``how-to!'' it is very helpful and always much appreciated when forum members take the time to do write-ups like that. i also have a monster -- '99 m900 -- and i have learned a ton from the DMF, so i was glad to find this forum (much better than the other 1199 boards).

i had an s1000rr last year, which i loved from the standpoint of smooth drivability -- it was really an amazing experience, one that changed my thinking about what is possible on a bike, having come from having owned a couple of monsters. but the bmw was just a bit too tight for me, ergonomically (i'm 6'3''), and it felt a bit heavy throwing it around corners at the track. i'm a total novice, but the pani felt much roomier to me and so much lighter to toss around corners.

plus, i love the ducati sound and feeling -- i'll take the false neutrals and shuddering starts to hear and feel that motorcycle grunt any day, when i want pure drivability, i'll get in an m3.

so any other thoughts on the ``RACE'' seat versus ``comfort'' or stock?

I vote for race. A friend of mine who despised the OEM is very happy with it…

I'm trying to understand how you're able to shift to 6th at 80-85 while claiming redline.
I haven't even attempted to discover if there really is a 5th or 6th gear yet as in 4th at any sort of usable rpm I'm well over the posted speed limit in most places around here.
If you're shiting from 5th to 6th at 80-85, you're barely off idle. And certainly no where near 7k that you seem to think you can't stay under for break-in.

I dont have an issue with the comfort seat, its actually much more bearable then the BMW s1000rr. Last night i rode straight through from Philadelphia to detroit, and obviously you have to adjust your ergos every 20 miles or so. But none the less it was the cold/wet rain that killed my motivation on that ride. I tucked when my ... started getting sore and stood up when needing to stretch.

As for the 5-6th false neutral i agree, i had that happen every time i left a service plaza, when i refilled. Its pretty annoying honestly and you look stupid i'm sure.

As for the wrist when riding i just installed my throttle-meister bar ends and they made a world of difference. I'm really happy with the installed product, except for track day ill have to break the locktight and reinstall the OEM bar ends.

Think he's saying it redlines during the false neutral.

I would start with changing the pegs if not the complete rearsets for the improvement on grip, then add tank grips from techspec or stompgrip.
Both of these mods will improve your grip and help with the issue you are having.

yes, CHARLIE, it only redlines when i hit a false neutral IN BETWEEN 5th and 6th. and the only reason i go up to 6th at 85 in the first place is because i was on a long trip and thinking it would conserve gas to be up there. obviously, unless i'm doing triple digits, even during the break-in, i've found no reason for the 6th gear other than MPG cruising.

i will definitely change my pegs -- i find the stock position fine but the pegs are slippery. tech spec is on it's way!

You can obviously try out what you like. But F-P etc, I switched it to P for two up, but went back to F for myself. Sounds more like you're not gripping with your core as much as you should (sore wrists).

Yeah, the stock pegs are garbage and adj. rearsets should help the ergos in regards to gripping the tank with your lower body. The false N's are probably as someone already mentioned, due to an incomplete shift throw. I've adjusted mine and don't encounter this issue.

Try to stay between 95-160 mph, gets to be a lot more comfortable. :D

I dont have the comfort seat and my but gets sore after a while too. With this i just lean one but cheek of the seat for a couple minutes to get some blood circulating again.

My wrists start getting sore when im forced to be upright. Keep your elbows bent. Riding around town and local roads are rough but i guess ive just gotten used to the pain. lol

Btw ill be the first to offer to take that comfort seat off your hands if your willing to part with it :)

take off the windshield and lean in. wonderful for the wrists...

Welcome!! When I saw the title of this thread I was going to advise you to get off drugs and stay out of jail, to solve your butt issue ;)

However now I've read it I agree with the guys above , you'll get used to the position and build tolerance. Once the run in is done, it's likely you'll also have more air resistance on your upper body solving the wrists.
