Highest octane 1299s can safely take ??????

Once the ignition timing meets its shortest delay, that’s all it can do and more octane really won’t give you much more power.

What can a 2015 1299s handle for octane for the best performance

As Rogue says. You can put whatever octane fuel you like in it but it won't make any difference unless you tune for it. Higher octane fuels burn slower so ignition timing must be advanced. The fuel system on the 1299 does not use feedback or any form of self tuning at high throttle openings so a new map must be created.

Cheers

What if a rapid bike unit is installed? Will that system help? or would a new map still be needed?

Good question, my guess is yes. You will need something that can read a wide band 02 sensor.

depends which model (EVO or Race) Rapid bike auto tunes within a range of parameters. if you running "high octane" then the full benefit of running this type of fuel wont be fully reached unless you pick a fuel and tune for it( ie playing with ignition timing) RB Race has dual map function you can do a hi octane tune and a normal street tune and switch between.

C16 is a common hi octane race fuel but being race fuel it has different burn character which needs to adjusted for.

why not just go E85? tune it right and you get far more gains than most common hi octane gasolines.

I have looked into the RB module quite a bit looking for auto tune ability for a smoother ride in low RPM and highway speed. I'm on the highway a lot getting to the nice riding roads. Right now my 1299 bucks quite a bit. I have a lot of oxygenated gas here and finding pure 91 is not easy and it's not consistent. In the end I didn't think it was worth the trip, but if someone tells me different, it will be on my 1299S within 30 days.

the RB will help with that.

in the city i can find 98octane very easy, soon as we go for a long ride 95oct if im lucky. but 95octane is more than fine.

Currently have RB race with Quickshift. Full termi's and a SF filter.

I do have tuneboy cruise control still (i did have TB reflash but went to a RB)

Hmm, if I do this the only thing I'm adding is the RB Race.m module. It's expensive to fix something I've gotten used to, and if it does actually smooth out I'm going to be pissed I didn't do it earlier. Lol

Do you already have a RB module?

No, but was looking at it yesterday and I would need the RB plus the auto tune. So I see this will be pricy, which might be why I did not pursue last time I looked at this. I find it to be stupid to have to spend $1000 to make the thing rideable at low RPM. I get the mapping is done for emissions, and it's super lean down low which results in crappy fueling. I've never liked a bike so much and complained so much about the ride. Lol

Hey guys running 110 leaded with the updated bren tun and the thing is a beast now

Unless your buying race fuel you'll never see true 93 octane. I bet 1.5 gallons of .... 87 is in the gas station line from car before you...

I'm always worried about the fuel in the pump line. That's why I take my car to costco, fill it up with premium and then pull 3 safe-t-cans out of the trunk and fill those. I go to the gas station about once a month for both vehicles
