Honda CBR1000RR-R SP 2024 vs V4R 2023

That’s the MCN test I reposted. My interpretation of that would be that the BMW has more “potential” or overhead than the V4. The V4 can be ridden easily at 8/10ths but anything over doesn’t make it faster. The BMW’s 8/10s isn’t as easy to ride but if you really push you can extract more out of the bike and do better lap times.

That’s pretty much exactly how I think it is between the Honda and the Ducati this year. Interestingly, despite many of my fastest buddies having BMW’s and swearing by them, I’m not even considering one, haven’t even looked into it 😂😂😂.

For whatever reasons that bike just doesn’t hold any interest for me even though it should.

I mean, how many logic disorders are we throwing into? Confirmation bias, et al?

The only BMW I've ridden was at CSS, and it was a bone stock model. It didn't make me want to run out and buy one. But, if that bike would have been tuned with an exhaust and well sorted, maybe it would have been different. A lot of the criticism of that platform is how neutered they are below 9K or there abouts. I don't think BMW has saw the same price creep at Ducati, so it's a contender for a next bike, not that I'm shopping though, the entire market kind of sucks.

I’d rather have a chassis and front end that communicates what’s going on than one that relies on electronics to go fast. For me, the V4 has been tough to ride fast. The front end feels vague and I’m not able to carry as much corner speed. Maybe that’s the incorrect way of riding these big bikes. Either way, after 2.5 years trying to systematically sort out the V4’s quirks (without resorting to crazy bandaid poseur mods) I don’t have much to show for it which is frustrating. I think it’s because of 3 factors:

- I’ve come from riding middleweight I4 and 3s for years (Yams, Suzuki, and Triumphs)
- Lack of front end feel and lazy geometry
- Bad ergonomics

It was worth a try and horses for courses. I just picked up the bike from the dealer and my sig ot literally said that I should keep the bike because it looks and sounds so good going down the road. Still turns heads.

I’ll get your coat… the doors over here…. Now feck off! 🙋🏿‍♂️🙋🏻‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️👍

Also I think as long as Ducati has that engine it will have ‘character’ but I think they’ve taken a lot of the character out of it with the new iteration, I keep hearing phrases like ‘it’s more Germanic’ and it’s a bit ‘video-games’. All while saying it’s the easiest bike to ride fast they’ve ever ridden. Generally speaking, easy to ride fast is not associated with ‘character’ lol
Flaws are generally what give things character, although that’s not necessarily the case with engines.
Interestingly I saw a comparison test between the BMW and Ducati last year where the BMW ran faster lap times with a fast rider on it, but they said that Ducati and BMW had switched places, and the BMW was the more raw and savage bike to ride while the Ducati had seemed to become more tame, and that was last year before the newest even more tame iteration.
I think that was a MCN test, although I don’t recall any other reviews saying the same thing so perhaps the rider had something to do with it.
And so, to commit myself I bought a set of BST CF wheels for the Fireblade SP tonight…so I’m in it now 😂😂😂
You’re cheating though - you’re going to buy a V4S as well. 🤣

If the base model was available do you still think you’d get the SP? I can get the base model here but I’m still tempted to try the SP. I haven’t ruled out the V4S though.

How do you mean?

Nothing on the market right now is very compelling. The new Panigale has some nice features, but the pricing has gotten stupid and its nothing that makes me want to sell a well sorted 2021 V4S. The R1 is a very dated platform, BMW is boring, kind of feels cheap in person, and is pretty well neutered from the factory. I remember Hondas being kind of cramped, but the last time I was on one was a 2013 CBR600RR. Maybe if you the same size as our "A-group" midget it fits, but any actual man may prefer the egros of the Panigale or BMW.

Nice deflection, andy. Talk to me when you get the bump to A’s, grandpa 😂 Isn’t it past your bedtime bubby?

Deflect from a ........ made up chart about someone else's feelings? Hilarious. Got a bump when the rest of the intermediate field was slow and now he's Lorenzo. 🤣 🖕

As we don’t have it available I don’t know the spec on the base, how’s it different than the SP.

Is that right, Ronald McDonald? A real MAN has a big dick bc he wears shoes fit for clowns. Probably has a lifted pickup truck too just to compensate. Poor wife…

Also, she has to deal with a ....... nimrod that has no idea what deflection is…

Yes the ergonomics suck. You're light, try loading up the front a little more. The problem here being lowering the CG doesn't help you. The front to rear weight bias/CG was designed for somebody 170-180 suited? If you're 35 lbs lighter than that so 18 or 19 more lbs would be on the front at their design weight. Try riding the bike without the damper to see if it helps the frontend feel.

Would have to go to Germany to find one.
