Honda CBR1000RR-R SP 2024 vs V4R 2023

It’s hard to tell but obviously non-EC3 and worse brakes. It’s a bit weird how the SP still has cast wheels.

Yeah lightening rotating mass is priority number one, and a bigger windscreen, and probably a better Brake MC. It doesn’t actually need more than that.

When I picked up the BST wheels it came with the rear sprocket and sprocket carrier, I was surprised at how heavy that thing is compared to the one on the Ducati.

That’s probably about it. The V4S of course already has the forged wheels and a lithium battery, along with a 520 setup, all things that save weight (although the stated difference between the S and the base isn’t actually all that much). Not sure what the MC is (I’m sure there’s at least 43 pages of chat to be had about that).

I think the Honda base and SP both have a normal battery rather than lithium and I cannot quickly find if they are 525 or 520 (I’m going to guess 525 and that needs changing as well, ‘need’ being a subjective term).

So the V4S already comes with the lithium battery, 520 setup (not sure about the SP) and forged wheels.

Is the sprocket on the wheels you picked up a 525?

Nothing on the market right now is very compelling. The new Panigale has some nice features, but the pricing has gotten stupid and its nothing that makes me want to sell a well sorted 2021 V4S. The R1 is a very dated platform, BMW is boring, kind of feels cheap in person, and is pretty well neutered from the factory. I remember Hondas being kind of cramped, but the last time I was on one was a 2013 CBR600RR. Maybe if you the same size as our "A-group" midget it fits, but any actual man may prefer the egros of the Panigale or BMW.

I think the ergonomics of the new bike are a significant improvement. Are the physical and electronic changes enough to justify changing? Subjective of course - if you can and you want to then you’re not going to be disappointed. If you can’t afford to or don’t want to, you’ve still got an awesome bike that’s probably better than we are. I think the new Honda is improved ergonomically but I’ll be able to judge that somewhat on Tuesday when I see one..

Some people will fit a 400 better though.

Where do you fit your walker on your bikes? Let me know when you can get a knee down

Given the walker comment I'm trying to figure out who your insulting? A little fold up telescopic one would work pretty good though. I'll tie it to the taillite stalk. Give me clear dry warm pavement even on sport touring rubber no issue. The problem with these is getting far enough off the inside so you're not using so much lean angle. If Spooky rode my 916 on current DOT rubber he'd have his knee down by the end of the first lap. Wouldn't even notice except for the heat coming into his knee.

I had my knee down about 30 years ago without trying while riding with a crossed up style that was all the fashion at the time and using all of the front tire, on the road. I don’t think getting your knee down is the definition of a fast rider. I am a bit more sensible these days and it’s never been something I have tried to do.

I would guess the usual suspect was trying to insult me. Fortunately, I don’t have to see it. I suspect he is still directing comments at me though, which is cute.

I find it funny that you ignore me but also try to insult me haha. Running slicks in Novice and can’t get his knee down. THAT is the definition of a ....

It’s not marked with width, only the tooth count but it oooks thicker than a 520

Actually I never thought that comment was pointed at you. It was more like an observation on proportionally small feet on anyone. These are dynamically pretty hard given the quality of the brakes and tires. I've not run a modern slick but I can see that you can trail in until your eyes want to pop out. They're really sticky. I wonder about the transition off the brakes since you can be heeled in so far it's all about the engineered flex in the chassis. I want to do a track day on slicks but beautiful is not so happy about that. Until I was in New Orleans last year I never knew that kumbaya meant come by here.

Considering they think cast wheels are fine on the SP I’d imagine they are perfectly happy to put a 525 on - it’s all going to get changed anyway as it’s designed for racing.

You do realize that a 525 chain is better for trackdays than a 520? They last significantly longer for a marginal weight penalty.

1.6 mm in chain/sprockets width is the least of your problems. Age and decrepit mess is what you need to be concerned about

The big twins murder the 520's not so with the V4's. I've been running 520 and I'm seeing good life.
