How good is the Ohlins EC 2.0?

I know the question of “is it worth getting the S over the base” has been asked numerous times but aside from all the differences, how good is the adaptive suspension?

It is all relative no doubt, but allow me to elaborate on my situation... I’m obviously trying to decide between a V4 and a V4S (Streetfighter). My previous bikes were an Aprilia RS 125 (2-stroke) and a Honda CBR 600 RR. I have no experience with adaptive damping but I do come from a car background and understand the basic principles of suspension compression and rebound. Chassis geometry not so much. I intend to use my bike mainly on the road but plan on doing some track days (no slicks for now).

So all that considered, my question is... is the adaptive function of the factory Ohlins worth having when compared to an Ohlins FGRT 200 and TTX setup for example?

What I find most compelling about the factory Ohlins is how “plush” most people say it is.

Adaptive function not worth it to me, especially over an aftermarket ohlins setup. I have mine set to fixed so adaptive is turned off altogether, I just like the electronic damping control.
The plushness is one of the things that sucks, but I guess for street riding it’s ok.

Not to hijack out of context but “anything” you can do to eliminate something electronic related from a Ducati should be a priority.

Yeah and everyone roasts ya if ya have electric forks

A servo motor spins the same damn threaded piece that raises n lowers the needle instead of you twisting a knob

BFD...

“Öhlins” ewww ahhhh - made in Germany - oh boner. I don’t know what percentage of their stuff is actually made in Germany but I am starting to think it’s just the stuff stacked on top of the top shelf stuff. I will never use their .... again. It’s a pita. And ya gotta cover it with saran wrap to keep everyones drool off of it?

Don looks like the white powder has kicked in again sorry to hear your back to the heavy drugs. Not Germany its Sweden so since you can't afford anything from Ohlins probably best to go with some cheap stuff like TDPRO forks from AliExpress $300 for a set will be a good enough package for what you got going on.

What do you mean by electronic damping control? The ability to electronically adjust settings rather than wrenching?

Alk, ignore the noise- I dont have the electronics so I cant personally give any real world advice but ive read a lot of threads, reviews etc and it appears to be that the electronics Ohlins are actually pretty good for street riding. That is where 99% of these bikes exist 99% of the time. The adaptive feature is good for touring, commuting but not so great for situations where you need more control and feedback as in track or you are at a level where its getting in between you and the bike. If that is the case then you can appreciate higher quality suspension options I would tend to go base plus the FGRT/TTX route or better. As Endo alludes too, less places to let the smoke out the better but for most people most of the time the S is not a terrible option.

There is no end to this process btw, there is always better and more expensive . You just need to know what your limit is.

Yes that is correct. I like being able to adjust compression and rebound from the dashboard. Is it as effective/precise as a I’d like, no, but with the valving I had done it is a lot better at controlling damping.

I'd suggest, for your purposes, the S would be perfect. Press a button, it sorts the settings out for you.

If you decide you're going to do a lot more track, then base plus aftermarket suspension would potentially be money better spent. But, I'd avoid Ohlins. Mupo, K-tech, Bitubo all are better than Ohlins in my experience. Especially the Mupo CSP fork cartridge, it's sublime.

This may sound ridiculous but would installing S suspension and electronics down the line be viable? Has it been attempted before?

Mupo is excellent piece of kit, have it in mine BMW Gen4

You would have to change everything to add the E suspension

Im not exaggerating

I was when I compared Europe to a small part of OC but that conversion would be super expensive

Those are 3 cities south of LA that are each about as big as the countries are in Europe : )

Huntington Beach Newport Beach and Costa Mesa

Actually, country of Sweden is bigger in land area than the whole state of California. Germany is bit smaller, about 16% smaller than California, but has over twice the population size. France is about 20% smaller than Texas.

And if you look the bigger picture, the continent of Europe is bigger than country of USA, has twice the population and slightly bigger GDP (economy size).

But true, the countries of Vatican, Monaco and San Marino are smaller than Huntington Beach.

Well 100 years ago Germany or whatever it was called “the empire” was something like 10x as big as California. It’s tiny in comparison to what it was. 50 years ago we drove thru 4 counties in 1 day but maybe we only hit the corners I dunno I was young. All I know is we were on the freeway in Switzerland and we passed my aunt n uncle and they weren’t supposed to be in any of the same countries we were gonna be in and I realized right then how small this planet really is : )
