How often do you lubricate your chain?

Can you elaborate? Im open to understanding more completely but i only spray chain lube at the orings space. I personally don't care about surface corrosion and with the gold chains i don't even think that's an issue.

Why does the roller to sprocket surface need lubrication?
Some people like to over do it. It’s like changing your oil every 1000 miles or less. It makes us feel all fuzzy and warm inside .

its more the roller to bush surface.
the oring covered grease is only between pin and bush.
but...whatever.
everyone ,chain factory, engineers, motorcycle factory, with the exception of the new regina chain , tell you: grease your chain.
they should know what they talk about?

Grease it... Not oil it

Roller contacts sprocket. Metal to metal. Better if some grease molecules in between to take some load. But it’s a open system so what ya gonna do? Pull over every 5 mins? No. This is the land of the free. They are easily swapped out relatively inexpensive wearable parts.

Ride it like you stole it : )

Thanks for that clarification. Makes sense. There has to be some movement occurring between roller and bush so lube in there would be useful. Spraying at the oring would naturally send lube to that gap especially when chain is hot (which is usually recommended).

All this talk is inspiring me to give my bike some maintenance love since it's too cold to ride anyway.

I clean chain about every 1000 miles, and add some lube... I check chain tension using same interval. Been using that method for last 10 plus years and has worked. Usually swap chain and sprockets about every 10,000 miles.
