How to: Change 1199 Brake Pads

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

Checked an 1199 and a 1098R tonight and the pads there were staggered, too.

Honestly, I don't think it makes any difference at all. I'm leaving the right rotor pads 'upside down' and the left rotor pads 'right-side' up.

I've only done a few hundred sets of brakes....but I use antisieze or grease to avoid galling, not loctite! If there was a factory service manual out it'd recommend grease. Grease the screw threads and install to the recommended torque....if they'll ever publish it!

I'm with you, don't think it matters.

Yup..way to go! Use Grease! Better! I have been doing my own bikes for years and caliper bolts is one area I apply a light coat of grease...always. Never had them loosening while riding...ever.

You will never have a problem loosening them when the time comes to service your brakes again...torque them to specs always.

Anti is the BEST at creating and posting HOW TO's here on forum.
I vote the mods or Duc create a folder in the Mech & Tech section for the threads which have these great photo and step by step how to instructions - maybe Anti can place all his other ones in there too!

Anyone second this?

Dennis' posts on such things are in the How to/ Guides section..seems the right place to me??? But I agree what he posts is brilliant stuff...

I can use some help.

I had my wheels painted on 2016 Panigale 1299. I polished the front wheel where the rotors bolt on. It is super clean bear metal. The problem is when I tighten the bolts on the break calipers the front wheel locks up wont move.

WHAT I'VE DONE SO FAR:
Wheel is polished for flush rotor mount
Bearings seated correctly (check by mechanic)
I have a print out of the font wheel parts for mounting
Spacers in right place, axle travels good through wheel and bearings
Calipers line up perfect to break rotors. (no forcing to line up)
Removed fluid reservoir cap and compressed pistons on both calipers

As i tighten calibers by hand with out torque the wheel just locks up. I been over and over this and at the point of getting the bike towed to the Dealer for service.

Any suggestions would be great ??

Does anyone know why my front brake pads are making a loud click when releasing the lever when i am pushing the bike backwards? I have just installed a set of EBC FA447HH pads on my 1199. The bike rides normally and brakes properly when moving forward but when being pushed backwards like in reversing down a hill when I release the brake lever the pads seem to make a loud click in the caliper? This can only be heard with the engine off and the bike not running. When the bike is running I cant hear the noise.

check the clip, probably not set properly.

Thanks for the reply, That is what I have been thinking but I have had them in and out about ten times trying to stop this noise and I can't see any way of installing them other than the way I have them in?

I just installed a new set of EBC Double Hs and they came in staggered. You cannot have only the wider (or narrow) part of the pads both on the bottom or on top. You can’t even intentionally do them this way. The wider part only goes on the bottom on the left half of the caliper on both sides.
