Help Support Ducati Forum:

After looking through every picture on the WS manual I managed to find the one below. Unfortunately, it only shows you where the starter motor is and not how to get it off. Upon looking at a schematic diagram/parts list it appears that there are 3x bolts holding on the starter. I couldn't find anything showing the cables connecting the starter but have a look around it and if it is connected then disconnect it. Be very careful when putting the starter back on, if you cross thread the engine casing then you will have problems. When you disconnect the cables make sure you mark them up, (they should only fit on one way i.e different size connectors etc... ) there is nothing worse than chasing a fault only to find that you've monged it somewhere!

Prior to doing any of this though, I would just check to make sure all electrical connections are tight (bolts may be in, but if it is not tight then it may well throw problems like the one's you're experiencing your way). Let us know how you get on, have a look at the ebay link that Phl put up and see if it would be possible to get to the + and - on the started motor. If you can, you could always short these terminals and that would tell you if the starter is at fault (that's a discussion for later though). Start easy by checking the connections and we'll take it from there. Time to get your tools out, hope it helps :)

Also, if/when you pull the connectors off the SM, check them for corrosion, they may have rust or some other type of corrosion on them and it may be a simple case of cleaning them up with some electro lube and that will be problem solved. Keep us posted.

Also,

I only see one terminal on the starter, so the starter chassis might be the ground (not the usual but possible). In that case maybe it's loose and not grounded properly.

I bought used, and got the warranty... Suggest you do the same especially since it is a '12. $1300 was def worth the stress free riding, and after a few leak issues it has paid for itself already.

I just took a late night ride on my 2012 Panigale Base model

It only has 2900 miles on it

I went inside the gas station bought a pack of smokes and smoked one... get back on my bike.... it turned over and no start.... so i tried again it burped almost started then.....

CLICK CLICK CLICK.... nothing won't turn nothing... my headlights are not dimming everything is working fine but nothing

I am stranded and I need help please tell me what I need to do.

Meant to ask you where you took the bike to have it looked at...

#11 appears to be the bolt that holds it in, similar to an easy GM v8 starter. Chassis ground. One positive wire.

Remove panels. Crank bike. If you get 12v at the starter terminal and no smoke or cranking. It's a bad starter motor.

Make sure you have a fresh battery that load tests well. Half of my "bad starter" service calls are batteries with no cranking abilty left in them, despite 13.3v across + and -. Sulfated plates or a broken plate is the cause.
