Ahh the old hindsight is 20/20. I speak to a lot of 1199 owners on here and in person privately and I get the same reaction. The forum just masks excuses for Ducati cause people don't want to admit a 20k mistake but I'll be totally honest here and admit the 1199 was my biggest purchase mistake and the experience will keep me from ever purchasing a Ducati again. I have had old heat shield problems, new heat shield problems, a melting fairing, a melting rear hugger, bolts fly off, rear set swing arm problem ( although that is an aftermarket purchase), signal issue and paint problem. I have the bike since June 2012. Problem is in the first 2 years you can't get rid of the bike you lose too much.

The reaction to every person I ask is the same a wincing like pain reaction. What do you think of the bike. I get well and a face like you have stomach cramps saying its good but....

I am also a member of the s1000rr forum. I can tell you these complaints are not really posted. Neither are they on the r1 forum. I know it happens to all makes but nothing is like it is with the 1199. I think what could have been if Ducati actually thought things through. With the most amazing looking bike yet you have to spend 30k to get the kind of performance the base should have. Keep in mind you can get an hp4 for 20k which will stay with an r anytime and is the price of a base with a full system and it's a titanium full akra exhaust system far and a way better quality than termi.

This is what the 1199 should have been and the reviews it should get.

I know this will get blasted but the next time you have a dash problem bolt problem or an oil leak or your decision is what to do about an extended warranty or it takes you 3 hours to change the oil and coolant remember this post.

+1 - pondering switching over to an S1KRR myself too..

Keep in mind with this post I'm a real owner of this bike I don't say I have one. It doesn't sit to be looked at I ride it and it's more of like a post of what could have been. I know magazine articles mean nothing but eventually keep getting thrashed by bikes 10 k cheaper makes you wonder.
Theses things for the 1199 can't be fixed with an upmap a modified heat shield or gearing. This bike is flawed in my opinion and I'm not afraid to say it.

Ducati I know u read the forums take this post seriously. I'm not a fanboy for any brand I bought this bike cause it was suppose to be the best. It clearly isn't. A slight step down and the new zx10r is right there with u at 14k

And please looks are subjective and I know this is the best looking bike but I'm tired of hearing it.

Mark... I can fully understand your point of view although I think you are being slightly harsh... People have had issues with their 1199..me included..although it was "only" the dash and it did totally through into question my ownership of this bike and the overall reliability of it..since then I have done many thousands of miles and loved everyone (well except the last few after a 600 miler lol) fault free...

Anyway.... I cannot really argue with you that Ducatis are not up to the standard they should be in the real world.... this is only my second one and I am in no way a Ducatisti but I cannot deny that for some reason the 1199 is the best bike I have ever owned... I have no explanation for that and I don't offer it as an excuse or reason to keep it or rate it highly...I just really really enjoy the whole visceral feeling..

The HP4 is an awesome bike...you will love it..

Also don't forget it can barely finish a race in WSBK and even when it does it finishes, surprise, about the same place Ducati finishes in MotoGP. Try to ride it at a pace to keep up with Kawi, Honda, BMW or Yamaha and you end up like Canepa and get bucked off. :)

Gunny - don't worry, you can still call us for a roadside assist anytime. We'll pick you up on our HP4s. ;)

Well mine just sits to be looked at, so I guess I fall into that category. As others here have said if I dont put the bike on the track where it belongs I am a ..... and dont rate being able to provide any reviews, guidance, or feedback. So I will just keep my mouth (fingers) shut from saying anything within this post ever again.

Personally, I don't think it's the best looking bike. That said, I've had my bike since early June and I haven't had any problems with my 1199 and I use it for commuting during the summer here in Phoenix. The only issues I have is pain in my throttle hand - but I suspect that aggregated by typing (since I haven't ridden in a few weeks and it still hurts).

i have (had) minor issues, but i also love challenges.

i don't want things to become boring.

the S1000RR is boring.

not so the pani.

the end.

No gunny yours sits for a reason not because lack of want to ride it. Obviously that comment wasn't toward you but the people that say they never had a problem and they didn't even hit the first service. We rode a short ride you had 2 problems in a half hour. I just hope for your sake the problems don't come out after your warranty expires do to lack of riding.

stw I love riding it too the problem is something always comes up for me before I ride or my friends bike and rides are cut short cause of issues. Yes we both have ducaties

Mark.... I believe you and fully understand your frustrations.... I cannot give you any rationale to keep it...

We gotta set up a ride mark... Today would of been great except for the rain... 1300 miles no problems yet except for a hard start here or there but when it does happen its pretty embarrassing

Not to mention service doesn't know crap about the bike. I broke a clip and they said I needed a whole new harness for the suspension. 2thousand. Trans had the same problem gave me his guy got the clip for 10 bucks problem fixed

Where do you go for service? Manhattan or cross country?

What a coincidence. Rossi ....... about Ducati and i heard he just bought a BMW too. You guys have so much in common:D

It's true the Pani's have not performed well, although I think they could if not for a few things....

1. Rider. Carlos Checa is getting old, we need a fresh new rider....look and what Pirro has done already on the bike - a 6th place finish! Not great, but not horrible considering the season so far.

2. Regulations. Everyone talks about air restrictions, and while that is huge and already been removed (kinda, it's a bit more complicated) there is still the mind boggling regulation that the 4 cylinders are allowed modified pistons/headers (I forget which) while the twins are not. This makes a huge difference in power between the 2 and 4 cylinders and is what causes the bikes to truly lose out - on the straights.

3. The Pani is much more competitive in the Superstock 1000 class, and rightfully so, because all the bikes are closer to stock. I have a feeling once the EVO class starts up next year, and takes over in 2015, we'll see Ducati much more competitive (provided they find a good rider).

Hey, you can't inject facts into this..you might ruin a great troll! ;) +1 on Pirro - he was running great last weekend.

I could give a **** how the bike does in WSBK or whatever... winner or loser..to me its irrelevant...
