I'm a bit pissed off today... (rear suspension)

I have been riding in F since new and today it will get changed to P as I want to take my wife for a few rides.
I also look forward to doing a comparision between the 2 and see how the bike reacts over the .... roads we have here.

But I am sure I will do exactly what George and RSR have, and I will put it back to F as this is how I like my Ducati's to handle.

Our .... roads are worse than your, I'll bet! ;) Had a pot hole swallow my R1 front wheel!
 
Reading some of these posts makes me wonder how many here actually ride their bike the way it was intended to be ridden. I ride mostly on street, I have a base 1199 and for the first two weeks and 500 miles it was on the F setting. When pushing the bike in the canyons it felt like the back end was way too lively and it took forever to settle down after absorbing a bump at speed. After the linkage was switched to P setting the back end felt much more settled and compliant when pushing the bike. The suspension still is not perfect, but switching to P and setting proper sag made it much better.. I can understand how a super smooth track might suit the F mode, but for riding on the street (with its bumps, dips and potholes) I cant see why anyone would want to be in F mode.

Ill have the Gopro next month and Ill show you some potholes that will swallow the whole bike:D

To be honest it is not so much the potholes, it is because we have had so much rain over the last couple of years and the road goes soft and the trucks push it up into mounds with tar missing and the back roads are very narrow so there is not much chance of missing them at speed......the cure, dont sit in the seat !!
 
@1198 freak: I actually like that twitchy bump and grab the bike gives over irregularities in road surfaces. I like "catching" the landing, so to speak, under acceleration after hitting what the road brings and I like knowing that I can handle those and not let the bike get out of sort. It's a challenge and I welcome taking it to that edge...if you've ever been over some of the turtle shell copings at some of these tracks with indentations that appear to be made by imbedded 2 by 4's, then you know what I mean.

I just prefer to keep the bike lively and responsive and to not get complacent regarding road surfaces. Thus, I'm ready for what comes my way. I would love smoother roads, but that "ain't happenin' around here". So I have to take them as they come. Balls to the wall and no complaints.

@ Wallaroo: I wanna see you stick that thing into an Aussie sink hole and come out the other side unscathed!! Fire up the go pro!!

I come to read my manual after having my bike for a little over 3 weeks that my suspension is set to FLAT after I told the dealer to set it to PROGRESSIVE like its recommended by Ducati.

I was assured that it WAS in PROGRESSIVE mode and cared not to check for myself this entire time. WTF :mad:


I can,t believe you ride around for 3 weeks not knowing what the suspension is set at.

And then you blame the dealer. You should have checked it when you picked up your bike. Need to take some responsibility on your own shoulders.
 
I'm with Wallaroo, out of town in Perth, Western Australia we have gnarly roads with some real crashy pot-holes and generally bunny, gravel/quartz surfaces. Traveling over them at 170-230kmh is a real experience (especially dodging dead Kanagroos on the apex).

I had mine delivered and it was set in F mode, changed it at the first service to P and it transformed the bike in my opinion made it much more road compliant and gave me more confidence. P mode all the way for me!!!
 
I had my service done yesterday 8/27 and my linkage was set to F and I had the rear pegs put on at delivery and they forgot to do the They tried to charge me to change it to P but i was having none of that. Then i changed my mind and left it in F and removed the rear passenger pegs. The dealer said the P is for riding a passenger because of the weight back there of the extra person and all the torque the bike has. I will never ride anyone so no need for the P for me. Oh but now that the pegs are off and linkage is still set to F my girlfriend will say CAN YOU TAKE ME FOR A RIDE. If i left the pegs on and changed to P she would never ask for a ride. I like the bike the way it is don't want to change it.
