Indicator Issue

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I got my up map done about 6 weeks ago and bike very smooth in 1st gear and no surging around the 4000 rpm mark. Yesterday coming home from work I lost my RHS front and rear indicator and nothing on dash. Stopped bike for 5 mins and everything fine again. Went out on bike this am and all good except bike seems real rough at low speed 1st gear and after 20 mins or so lose my RHS indicators again.
Is it only the RHS that goes? And is it definite that the only fix is a new dash?

Just bumping this thread. The problem seemed to have disappeared for me but came back with a vengeance this w/e. What I also noticed as well as the RHS indicator not working the upper button on the LHS bar switch did not work - the one that toggles between total miles and trip computer. Did you guys with the indicator issue have the switch issue too?

We found it was a heat related issue. When the overall ambient temperature was high (90+) and the bike was also left in the sun it would occur, let the bike cool and the functions return.. Was the day it came back a hot day or was the bike parked in the sun for a long time? A new dash (under warranty) fixed this for me.

Just to update, I have about 2000 miles on mine, but just got the new mapping last week. This problem happened to me for the first time yesterday. May not be related, but the timing is there. It was not a particularly hot day, but I was stuck in horrible traffic with bike getting above 220 degrees. So timing matched with heat too possibly. I'll notify dealer.

Stuck Directional

A new wrinkle with this issue has cropped up: a stuck "on" left directional! I've already experienced the non-functional right indicator/inoperative top button problem that many have discussed here and will be bringing the bike in for a dash panel change-out. However, while cruising on I-95 this past weekend and signalling a lane change, I couldn't cancel it. Repeated pushes on the button had not effect. (Felt like a schmo riding along with a stuck directional!) Anyway, took the next exit, pulled over and shut down completely, and then when I restarted, it cleared. Related to the other problem, I'm sure, but has anyone else experienced this latest Ducatitronic anomaly?

RHS indicator, horn, mileage toggle switch NOT working

The 3 things mentioned above (Title) has act-up again or rather not working..Had my dash replaced once, this is the new and 2nd dash, yet mulfunction happens again.

Pretty pisst....

Doesn't Ducati know what the problem is , though it is still entertaining us with replacement for FOC , but what happen if warranty runs out. Ducati is not solving the root of the problem or rather knowing it.

Is horn and indicator light such a difficult application to implement ????
i don't think is rocket science, right?

Yes - same here - stuck on left trun signal. Also have experienced not being able to toggle high beam and one time, i couldn't change the riding mode. Is this all fixed with a new display??

I can concur what people above said. It happened to me also. Indicators basically not working or having a mind of their own when they did.

First they changed a switch on the handle bar but it reoccured within 20-30 km from the dealership. They then ordered me a new dashboard (free) which I waited till 12,000 km (first main service) to put on. I got my software upgrade done at the same time and have had no problems at all since then. I've ridden about another 1000 km since.

I had a problem with my front left indicator light. I thought it was the ecu also from what i read on this forum. I took the entire light off and unplugged it. I saw inside that the fine wire post was bent towards the side wall and not making a good connection. Once I striaghtened it up and plugged it back in it worked fine. I bought the bike brand new like that. I guess it's a quality control issue if its not that dashboard.

-- stopped for gas....turned ignition off & removed the key to open gas cap, when i heard a strange noise, something foreign, a sound that didn't seem to be "correct" for the moment.....the engine was still running :) true !

-- granted it was a 916 from the early days, but i'm prepared for any psycho-electronical issues......a flashing or non-flashing turn signal seems comical by comparison :)

Had this happen to me last week. Only once though. Left blinker worked but the right wouldn't.

I was going to mention the problem to my dealer the next day but the problem hasn't reoccurred.

Next time this happens, can somebody try changing the settings in the menu? I know the right blinker does not activate menu functions but want to see if the other buttons work ok when the problem occurs.

This started happening to my bike for the past 3-4 weeks. It happens pretty much every time I ride. Same symptoms, the right side blinker and the up toggle button stops working. Horn, high beam, lower scroll button and left blinker works fine. Have it on video too :)
Initially I thought it was heat related, but I have had it happen when the temp gauge was showing about 165F too.
I showed it to my dealer while in the bad state and they said this was the first they have heard of it. Strange because they are the only dealer in this side of the bay and are quite high volume. Anyways, they said they will open a case with Ducati and I am waiting to hear back from them.
Probably a coincidence, but I noticed the issue only after the upmap and about 2k miles on the clock.

Same RHS indicator light not working problem happened to me, when I picked up the bike last week, after storing it away for the winter at the dealer. I went out and turned off the bike while I was in a mall. I called dealer and arranged for service. When I restarted the bike, suddenly the indicator was working. So it maybe issue with ECU or dash. I told dealer that i'll bring it in if indicator stops working again. I'm hoping it wont..

For you guys that had your dealer perform any work pertaining to this issue (replace switch, dash, etc), do you have a bulletin number of something that could be referenced?

I just experienced the issue with the right turn signal not working at all, only to work again after the bike was restart. Spoke to my dealer and they've never heard of the issue and they didn't seem to want to make any inquiry's until they checked out the bike themselves (and they're very booked right now). I'm guessing they'll be a little apprehensive unless I can demonstrate the problem -- which probably won't be guaranteed. Thanks

I'm curious if anyone that has the integrated taillight put in is having any of these issues?... Because I can see the dealer saying it because you modified your taillight that its not working properly....

Which makes me think twice about installing TB's integrated taillight as I have one coming... damn it

Well i guess nothing has changed since then, it is understandable then when 916 is first introduce with engine controllers, this is in the 90s.For the 851/888 they were still carb then, so "teething" issues is expected from 916but It has been more than 10 over years already, engine is superb on the 1199....

Indicator/horn are solely for road safety which should not be compromise, And come-on,a honda cub has even a reliable turn signal and horn...

I mentioned it to my dealer when I brought it in for the ECU flash and they knew right away that the dash needed to be replaced. Took a week to get a new one in but it's done. Good luck trying to replicate the problem as my was intermittent.
