Infrared video of the Panigale. Here is the heat!

Litespeed, any chance you can do a streetfighter and an 1198. What a cool idea. Wish I had one of those fluke IR cameras.

Sorry, I see the fluke is the Therometer. How did you shoot this video? What camera did you use?

If the heat shield is being saturated, I imagine it can be removed without any ill effects? If it's there to keep me from touching the header, I don't need a shield to remind me how hot the header is.

Hi all who own a Panigale, I have tamed mine quite a lot regarding the heat, if you want to call me I can tell you how I did it. However I am still doing a few other things to make it even better. I live in Tucson Az very hot all round here especially summer 112 degrees some days, so I worked on mine so I can ride a lot, after my mods they worked and cooled my ... a fair amount, I am still working on a few other mods which should be even better. Call me if you want at 520-885-5124 I would be more than pleased to help.

I have had my Termignoni headers ceramic coated inside and out (including the slip ons) and it has helped to some extent. I have also removed the steel liner from the carbon heat shield, but that as to save weight. The ceramic coating (powerkote) also helps to achieve a better tune as it keeps the temperature of the air inside the manifolds from fluctuating too dramatically. :D

Ps. I hate it when somebody says click on my link or call me for info about what I did. Post what you did or do not post at all.

I understand that this is a serious issue for a lot of us--but I'm a bit puzzled by it myself. I've got a bit over 16,000 miles (not amazing in some in this company but a significant amount of seat time in two years) and I have yet to be seriously bothered by the heat coming off of the engine or pipes when I am riding.

I'm running the Akra full system with the dainty carbon fiber heat shield that comes with it.

I've never ridden in anything other than full leathers--so maybe that is the difference. I have done a number of 500+ mile days--and all of those were at least partly in temps above 90 degrees F.

I really want to toss the metal shield; I swear it feels like a heat sink and emitter more than it does a shield. Since I have a 1299, there aren't any carbon fiber shield options yet. I wonder if the plastic shield on its own will melt without the metal....?

Buy a full evo akra
Comes with a cf heat shield
Stay out of traffic
Wear leather pants
Ride above 60 mph

No heat issue

Simple

Can't say the heat is that bad at all. Im just wondering of the guys who complain about the heat are the same guys who ride in shorts and tee shirts etc?

Some bikes seem worse than others. I hated my Tricolore's heat on hot days stuck in traffic. My R seems more forgiving. Same scenario less heat issue. I've had customers complain of burns to their legs and others who negate any heat issue. Might be state of tune/lean condition over enrichment. Not sure. I had a 1098 S and 848 and never thought about heat, it had full system etc. I traded off rides with a customer my Pani, his 1198 SP both have ceramic coated pipes and I couldn't wait to get back on my R cause the heat off his SP was worse than I recall my older superbikes having!

I love the heat from my bike right now, riding in 10degC weather, actually is very pleasant.

I've had more blisters than I can count on the inside of my right thigh. The bike is ridiculously hot. Of course I'm also using a SSTK +300 header...on a black bike...in North Carolina...in July...sitting in traffic.

great video and some good info

I will say this once more though..

Wrapping the headers of a road bike or car will make the baby Jesus cry......

And you when you need to replace it quite quickly

You need to allow the heat to dissipate not hold it in......somehow.

headers get hot.......wrapped headers get hotter (on the inside)

Man. I didn't even need an IR camera to know the exhaust on a 1198cc engine which produces 195 hp is a major source of heat. ;)

Just ride the thing. You'll know where the heat comes from.

49cc scooter. No heat issues. But, there is the problem of the mandatory rainbow sticker on the rear fender.
