Anyone in the insurance business?

My son-in-law (Diavel - Dastardly) & I (Multistrada) decided to order a Panigale Tricolore as a 'third' bike to share the use of.

Having just re-insured the Mutley for a year, I asked my insurer about insuring a second bike. If I simply added the bike to my insurance, then they would want "˜a few pounds' to cover it on my existing bike insurance (on the basis I guess, that the biggest risk is when you're on the bike, and you can only ride one bike at a time. . . ).

However, they won't add a named ride to the second bike, so if I did this and son-in-law rode it, then it would be on TPFT only. I guess it is likely that this would be true in reverse too. Which suggests that one of us would have to start a new policy on the bike - a bit frustrating, and probably quite expensive.

I wondered though what would happen if we both added it to our existing insurance as a second bike. It seems as though that way we would both only pay a little extra and we would both be fully comp. when we rode it.

On the other hand, I wonder if (a) They would rumble that the bike was insured twice via the insurance database that insurers now share in the UK (b) There is actually anything wrong in doing this?

Trouble is I guess that you can only insure a second bike if it's registered to your name. Hmmm.

Ideas please!
