Ducati is not stupid
They let Casey Stoner go and then employed Val, Ducati has a history of interesting decisions.

Why would Ducati let Dovi go, unless his manager is demanding a similar wage to Lorenzo? He showed he was competitive on the bike last year, unfortunately Honda have moved the game on over the winter and its a big gap to bridge for the rest of the field.
The new RCV is even making Crutchlow look good, my mum could ride it and finish in the points.
Casey wanted to go if you read his book, sick of tall popey syndrome/booed at/spat on.
Ducati f*cked up was not developing the bike after they won the championship.
as this drags on it is looking more likely. if it does happen ducati has to sign iaonne as he is the only one that has won on the ducati.
Dall'Igna stated that he is not too confident that Dovi will be a Ducati rider in 2019.
is this a strategy saying that? if Dovi goes what happens to the ducati progress?
Who knows Dovi was with Honda before. He could return. I just really hope Suzuki keeps Rins and Iaonne. But Iaonne leaves Suzuki I hope it is to return to Ducati.
