So I'm riding with a bunch of friends and I'm realizing they all have tremendous pick up on the highway and it's making me look stupid out there. Is there a reason why I'm getting owned on the highway?

By what bikes in particular??? Zx10's??

What gear are you in compared to them? If they're downshifting and you're not, of course they'll pull away

Your weight compared to theirs plays a big role but we need the variable what bikes?

i too use to think this but its in your mind. i assume you are following them.
1 they know where they are going and when they are going to make a move so they downshift take off and you are already a second or 2 behind.

2 do you know the roads. i know when i ride where i dont know i am much slower than everybody else cause i have no clue how the road will break where the apex is etc.

3 riding level. are they much more advanced than you are and/or are they more aggressive?

4 weight kind of bike etc.

i use to think same way its all perception.

From what I've seen it would appear the japanese bikes are taking off faster becasue the rider is only wearing shorts, t-shirt and flip-flops. And 19 year olds are generally pretty light. ;)

If you are at freeway speeds , you need to drop to 2nd gear, and just wave as you blow by them...........
Any other gear higher and you are toast.

The 1199 will walk all over 600's so it's clearly a rider/gear issue.

I ride with several Cbrs..both 1000's and 600's... Something is wrong here... They are great bikes.. the 600's don't even come close to the 1199 in power and get left on the last county if required..lol.. the 1000's keep pace (ish) but the only bike ever to walk mine was an S1000RR... I think a late model ZX10/ZX14 probably would too...This is on the hwy we are talking here....

Ok I'm in 5-6th
The bikes are R6s a couple giddier 1000s and a few CBR6s

That's why you get owned. You should ride around in 6K range these bikes were meant to ride in the higher rev range. Drop it to 3rd. You can't ride this bike in on the hwy in 5th and 6th. unless you are doing 160mph plus :D
