Just picked up a 1299 base last Sat, threw some goodies on it and been getting through the break in miles. This is my first Ducati Sports bike, I have a Monster 1200s and owned a 2013 S1000rr that I put 14k miles on and a K6 GSXR 1000. So far loving the Panigale, getting used to an L-twin sports bike, it's a bit different then I'm used to.
I tend to compare every bike I ride to the S1000rr since I had so many miles and track days on it, so far the 1299 compares very well, in much different ways. I'm still processing the differences.. Just as fast but things happen more slowly? Not sure if that makes sense but that is what it "feels" like.

Welcome.

I also came from a BMW S1000RR.. A 2011 that I put over 53,000 miles on. Commuted every day on it and put a ton of track miles on it.

The engine is so different on the Panigale compared to the BMW that it takes time to recalibrate your ears to the noise it makes. For the first week, I found myself hitting the rev limiter on occasion.

Once you get used to the power deliver and get your shifts right, I think the 1299 revs faster than the BMW.. I think it is geared shorter, but I find that you have to shift REALLY quickly on the 1299.

Cheers.

First thing I noticed was the short gearing and yeah, I am so used to listening for my shifts that I'm finding myself shifting early I think, I definitely noticed a huge difference in power delivery over 7k when I was having more fun then paying attention to the break in 6k limit I love it, just takes some getting used to.

Welcome!

I think the "break-in" is mostly bs btw. Track day guys and gals take new bikes straight to the track and run the s**t out of 'em haha :)

Welcome and congrats on the new 1299. It's interesting to hear the differences between the BMW and the Pani so thanks for sharing your thoughts. Where you located in the PNW?
