I just bought (month ago) a long time dreamed 1199 2012 with 8k miles with power commander 5, ecu tuned as last owner informed, termignoni titanium, and a few other mods. It’s my first ducati after several bmw s1000rr, but i can see that it pulls as strong if not stronger than my s1000rr 2016. Bike looks well maintained, but I’ve serviced all the filters and fluids to make sure.
Besides the fact that I’m in love and the bike is incredibly awesome! There are two things that concerns me, probably a ducati thing but it’s better to check with who knows about them.

1- I’ve notice at least 1 time per ride that rarely when I’m giving it a full throttle pull, the dash shows an ENGINE! warning that lasts 1 sec and goes away, i try to replicate the same gas at same gear but it usually doesn’t show for the rest of the trip. I’ve made a montage from a random youtube video that was showing the same warning as I didn’t recorded mine. Is it normal? No dash light are on by the way, bike looks and rides 100% perfect.

2- it happens rarely after running the bike hot and stop for gas or something, then the bike turns the electrical on, but doesn’t crank, both times temp was around 180F, its like the ignition button was broken or something. Both times I’ve turned the bike off, waited, nothing, off again, waited more, then it started as nothing happened. Is this a normal behavior ? I’ve heard that ducatis don’t start well when hot, but not even attempt to crank seems weird. By the way the last owner removed the canister.

Get the MelcoDiag diagnostic software program for your bike and see what error codes the ecu may have. It's a great system to have for your bike even when your not having any issues and its extremely economical to get up and running assuming you have a compatible laptop or PC.

Your other option is to take it to a Ducati dealer and get them to pull the codes, depends on how long you want to wait.

In any case, none of what your seeing is normal. I don't think there's any point guessing what the culprits are as it could be anything from a loose connector, wiring issue, faulty sensor, to a genuine fault.

try disconnecting the Quick shifter, and going for a ride.
if this clears it up then strip and clean the DQS sensor, or replace

regular issues can come from the DQS, MAP sensors, and Gear sensor.
just a thought.. keeping the BBS module under the seat dry is very important as well, so make sure these issues haven't started since the bike was cleaned

Thanks for the answers guys! Both issues I’ve mentioned are intriguing. I’ve rode it for a couple of times after the post, but zero errors what so ever. I’ve purchased the cables for the MelcoDiag, and I didn’t disconnect the DQS/MAP/GEAR yet. I’m just being lazy and giving it a chance ti fix itself miraculously hahhaa if it shows again I’ll do it all!

Thanks guys!!

Perhaps this can help someone so I’ll post the resolution for the second problem (not starting)
Yesterday I’ve made a longer trip, spent good hours with the bike. Turned out that the cables of the start handle are bad, everytime I started the bike i needed to wiggle the cables.

That is amazing! I’m having the exact same problem I bought a 2012 1199S that was a garage queen and only had and only had 1400 miles on it. So the bike said obviously for a long time Bike is stranded me once after we would not restart while flashing engine on the dash.

No matter the speed I am going it’s completely dependent on RPMs. First time it happened to me was after riding about 400 miles over a 2.5 day period. I had the throttle opened 2/3 of the way, RPMs are steadily climbing to 7K from 5th to 6th gear and out of no where the bike went down to one cylinder and I was on the shoulder of the road with a $19K paperweight. Luckily it reset itself and I was able to take a slower ride home.

After watching that great YouTube video you made I feel like I’m looking at my 1199S.

if you’re going to replace both MAP sensors its recommended changing the hoses just to make sure they’re not dry rotted and cracked which can give the map sensors a false reading or false positive
