Ken Hill discusses HP4R vs Panigale V4

Timely! Was on the horn with Brian yesterday and he’d said he brought one to Miller and had Ken n Shane ride it...and their impressions. Got me all hot/bothered to build up an R next year! I was worried Miller’s altitude/power loss would be a buzzkill.... Very impressive comparo!

Enjoyed listening to his review of the bikes. But the two bikes weren't made to be compared. The HP4 Carbon was BMW's answer to the 1299 Superleggera when released.

Standard HP4 vs V4 Speciale is more like it.

Interesting conversation. I am really enjoying my V4s and to hear it favorably compared to a much more expensive super exotic track only bike is nice. Did I mention that I am REALLY ENJOYING my V4s? :)

so you want to take the bmw hp4 which came out in 2013 and is now 5 years old and compare it to ducati newest offering. anyway v4s is pretty impressive any way you slice it. lets see if the R will be worth all the extra coin.
i found it interesting ken saying the hp4 race is a world superbike competitor while the v4 is a detuned motogp bike.

Strange to compare a 100% no ........ purpose built track bike to a Showroom standard Superbike on OEM tires. Apples to oranges, I think.

But it was fun to listen to in the office. Its nice to hear how good the V4 is. Gives me hope for WSBK next year!

I'm just saying that the HP4 Race was 1299 Superleggera's competition. It was supposed to be an exotic material technological beast which the V4 Speciale is not. V4 Speciale is a "just" a V4S with special trims that's all.

In that context the standard HP4 would be the trim level that is comparable to V4 Speciale. The fact that it's been years since the HP4 came out doesn't make it not a comparable trim level.

Regardless of the miamatch... Speciale came up ahead in Ken's review when asked which he would buy. [emoji16]

im with you on that it is unfair to the ducati with a bike 3x the amount. however the ducati came out on top so thats impressive as well. It appears ken and zack didnt like the 1299.
LISTENERS NOTE - DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS PODCAST ANYWHERE NEAR A DUCATI DEALERSHIP. :D

Pretty sure they are comparing the HP4 race if you listen that is the bike they are comparing to the V4.

I suppose you could see the comparison if it was the best of BMW vs the best of Ducati. Next year it would be versus the V4r.

All of those that are stating the comparison was an old bike did you listen to the pod cast? He is without doubt stating that he ride the HP4 Race and that is what they are comparing to the V4 (in this case the Speciale). They are not comparing it to the original HP4.

this is what i was referring to not the podcast.

Yes I would agree that the HP4 race is closer to the SL in both cost & features. However the pod cast is their opinion of how the V4 compares as a track bike. It is interesting to hear that the race is an amazing bike but can be a handful to ride quickly.

I know someone who has one I would say that comment is true. On the other hand and the comparison was that the V4 is track friendly and has some of the race qualities and looks to compare to the race.
