Lamborghini Aventador - Ducati 1199 Panigale R

I was kind of hoping they would display a lap time for the Lambo, then have him hop on the 1199R and do a lap time that BEAT the Lambo.

Now THAT would have been cool.

Thanks for sharing. Love that car, mostly because of that motor.

Besides satisfying Ferdinand Piëch's personal interest, I have no idea what Audi/VW gets from owning Ducati.

On a track like Imola (that's what it looked like)? It wouldn't have even been close. Too many tight chicanes and climbing sweepers that put the huge power-to-weight ratio advantage of the bike to good use.

My bet would be at least 15 seconds. And that would be with a pro driver of Dovisioso's equal ability. The Italians know that and Lamborghini wouldn't have their crown jewel shamed in such a way and never would have provided the car. No magazine, especially an Italian one, would ever draw the ire of such an important car company either.

Cars suck - simple.

High output experience in small engines.....

car are faster in tight turns, aren't they??

Haha, are you reading from the press release? Because that's exactly what the acquisition announcement said.

Good joke if that's what you meant. If not, I'll elaborate on my first comment.

Yes, cars are typically superior in braking and lateral G forces. So tighter turns do play into their favor. However, the extreme difference (like 10 times as much) in horsepower-to-weight ratio has the bike absolutely rocketing away in any acceleration contest. So while the Aventador may make a little time into and through the tight chicane, the motorcycle will accelerate so hard that those gains are erased within 1-2 gears on the following straight. So then the bike gets to the next chicane quicker and the cycle begins again but the car loses even more.

On a track with big sweepers and high-G corners, like Monza, the car would be able to use the braking and lateral G advantages to better use. The car would likely pull a faster segment time through the Parabolica, Lesmo 1 and 2, etc. Even still, the bike accelerates to a similar top speed so much quicker that it would still likely pull a faster lap time, especially due to the long front Rettifilo Tribune straight. Bikes also take up much less room, so they travel less distance around the same corner. So while a Aventador on race tires will transition very quickly through Variante Ascari, the bike will travel less distance and run a "straighter" line through the turn and get on the gas earlier, which as we know is where the bike's biggest advantage is in acceleration.

Think of modern sportbikes as drag bikes that can turn. Twice the acceleration on the straights (or any acceleration situation) while only losing about 20% in corner speed and braking. The math is simple after that.

i guess you dont have to win in moto gp to get the perks. really nice

Haha! Well, they didn't show him driving away from the track with it. Thing is, he can actually afford to buy one and I bet they would give him a good deal. For less money, I'd take a McLaren 12C and be happy...

McLaren is far less emotional but i can see where you are coming from.

I've read that, but I think if I were to actually drive both cars, I'd be pretty damn emotional about both. Just faster in the McLaren :D
