Lap Timers

Sure, I understand. I suppose the BSD mount would do the job pretty well.

Is there a quick way to release the Solo 2 DL from its mount? Let's say if I stop and leave the bike un attended for some time, is it easy enough to carry with you without too much hassle (unplugging leads or unscrewing bolds)?

thanks
Marco
yeah there is a mounting plate with two finger tight screws that are held in place when removed and the unit has magnets as well. pretty slick

I think its just for ducati, its not specific for model. Let me double check
I hav a really good mount for it
Yes please let me know. Im selling a couple things to free up some funds to get one of these lap timers. Race season doesnt start until June for me so not particularly rushed.

With the 10Hz DDA+ already installed in the tail, I was looking for a good place and solid fit for my other more sensitive 20Hz GPS logger, the VBOX Sport (1st gen).

Same basic idea for possible most strong satellite lock-ons and resulting perfect track logging: I need to give the GPS antenna (as much as possible) an unobstructed view to the sky, therefore I need to install GPS as far away from my body as possible:

I opted for a somewhat unconventional 'elastic band' fixture with two tie-wraps tucking the GPS into to the nose underneath the canopy right on top of the 2nd frontal DDA+ install option.
With VBOX in a soft leather pouch gently pulled into this tight position by the elastic band, I guess I won't loose it on track.

Hi Thorny,

first of all great job to get everything mounted! Not sure if you managed to fix the vibrations issue since this thread is from last year? Did you get another thicker plate to mount everything?

I have few questions, if you don't mind, as I'm quiet new to bike telemetry and I'm puzzled between the DDA+GPS kit and the SOLO 2 DL+ECU (with the Ducati mount).

So, my understanding is that the DDA has less functionalities than the SOLO 2 DL, at the same time is much smaller and it fits "properly" into the bike.
On the other hand the SOLO 2 DL is a much bigger "item" and it requires some mounting skills.

Does the DDA really drain the bike battery if the key is left plugged in? That's gonna be an issue.

To connect the SOLO 2DL lead to the V4 ECU port is it straight forward? I can see you have remove the upper side of tank, and is there enough room the get the lead going through and underneath the bike seat? As of course you want everything to be hidden underneath the bike and you have just the SOLO 2 DL device showing.

I have a GoPro Session 5 (smaller than the Hero you have) that would be great to pair with the SOLO, but as far as I know the official SOLO support for the Pani V4 would only allow to mount the lap timer on the bike stem, but then, I think that would kind obstruct your viewing to the bike dashboard as it is going to sit a bit higher up on the stem?? That is something I would like to avoid.

Last thing, if for example I want to for a spin ( NOT on a track) would the SOLO record all the GPS movements of the bike with all the parameter and get them tracked on Google Maps/Earth for example?

I really would appreciate your answers to clear my doubts :))

Thanks a mill

Marco
Sorry, missed your post. I dont' show up on this board as often any more, as my bike is well set and I am not messing with much any more. I tried a double plate, with two glued together and also with two black mounts. All it did was increase weight. Vibrations were still there. YOu basically need to run stabilization on GoPro7 then it is all smooth and dandy, it just crops some of the full frame. Yes with DDA you have no additional devices really on the bike except the GPS antenna in the rear. I would still recommend going Solo2. It is a much better system. No issues with routing the cable, it wont be visible anywhere and it is easy to figure out.
I still have DDA installed on the bike, it does not drain the battery. Connecting Solo cable into the bike is straaight forward, as long you get the appropriate V4 specific cable from Aim Solo.

The sort of aluminum plate that I made that allows side-by-side mounting of GoPro and Solo was the only acceptable way I found to create a proper view from the camera, not to block your view of the dash. Not sure about your last question as I do not use Solo on the street at all. When I convert my bike back to street I remove the entire plate all together and mount my V1 radar detector on the center stem =)))

Thanks Thorny!

I wish I could you the radar detector here as it is illegal in my country :))

I’d say the Solo 2 can be a good compromise overall, the two options available for mounting would be to use the proper AIM V4 mounting kit or the BikeSportsDev bracket - I suppose.

One question regarding how to to route the data cable from the SOLO device to the ECU plug underneath the seat, do you need to remove any additional fairing parts of the bike to make it “invisible”?

Thanks
Marco

That sucks!

You will need to remove the side panel to route the cable. .
