Launch Control - how to use?

hi guys, reviving an older thread.

i just got my 2020 v4 past the 1553 mile break in period.

i was going to try the DPL, i backed off because it was revving so high when i started to get on the throttle.

as someone else mentioned earlier, seems really rough on the bike.

i know it shouldn't, my my inclination was to back off on pinning the throttle in fear of redlining it.

how high does it rev with DPL engaged and the throttle wide open?

i'll eventually stop stumbling over my ovaries and give this a try ;)

better have wheelie control on for that ...., my buddy pinned the throttle and released the clutch but instead of launching forward, it threw him over the back like an unruly horse and did a big beautiful backflip

For what it's worth, I think it's best to view it as a rev limiter, rather than launch control.

Basically, you choose your level (1, 2 or 3?).

Next, after the screen tells you, pin the throttle wide open.

The revs should not exceed something like 9k(?) revs, and will hold them steady.

You now no longer need to think about the throttle, just keep it pinned.

When ready to go, slowly release the clutch (feather/slip). Use the clutch to control the rate of acceleration.

If you release it too quickly, stall/bog/wheelie.

Practice.

Always have your right foot covering the rear brake, and be ready to pull the clutch back in.

I believe setting 1 is the most aggressive. So start with 3.

Lol... nah, I’m with you in that one. I haven’t been game to try the DPL for two reasons...

1) I don’t really have a great environment to do it in (mostly commuting, and plenty of mr Plods patrolling my area; and

2) after more than 6 months of ownership, I still haven’t mastered the unassisted take-off. If I have anything over 5k rpm, it either bogs, or bunny hops. The clutch is just too bitey for me with a very narrow engage/disengage.

Don’t get me wrong, I can take off pretty quick, but it’s a matter of get the clutch out below 5k and then pin it... I just can’t see the 10k or whatever dpl sets the revs at is going to be a smooth affair.

I’ve been saying to my self just go give it a go... and maybe I should. Maybe the torque control it provides will be the difference ?

Hah. I'll man up and do it eventually. I'm more worried about messing up my bad ass new bike than hurting myself. Shall report back with video once I quit being a snatch and do it to it

Realistically, as long as you have the bike pretty straight at launch, the worst thing that will happen is that the front will lift. Your hand should be covering the clutch.

So, pretty much the worst thing is a wheelie.

If you practice enough, you'll be able to pull wheelies away from the lights

Any advice on the DWC? I have a 1299s and can’t get the front off the ground to save my life. DTC is on 2, and DWC is set to 1. I get going in second, and then crack the throttle and just find myself holding on so I don’t fall off the back. The front seems to still be on the ground.

turn traction control completely off, it disables wheelie control. Be very carefull. My 1299 wheelies shifting into 5th from 4th at redline although my ECU has been tampered with

I think the way to tell is if ur in 1st and u crack the throttle real quick,
If the front wheel doesn’t pop up, there should be a yellow bar light on the dash that comes on during electronic intervention

don’t backflip ur bike tho!!

Here is a video of me using DPL on my 2018 XDiavel. Fun stuff, but it will let you loop (flip) it. I am not sure about other Ducati motorcycles.
