This is sadly a well known phenomenon in the UK. People who had their bikes laid up during winter (like me) come out raring to go and ride too quickly and without proper attention. We have a higher than average amount of serious accidents over here during this period too

I had two near misses last weekend, my fault: too fast and a bad overtake and this weekend just gone I got involved in a stupidly fast race with another rider, almost coming a cropper on a long bend. No excuses, I was just too eager to get out there.

Take care guys.

Always good to have safety reminders. But this article is a bit silly. It admits that there have been an increase in motorcycle registrations that match the increase in deaths (and strangely argues thhis is due to a GOOD economy). Regardless, that means statistically nothing is really changing. They note that that more months of warm weather means more riding, which means more deaths. Again, statistically normal.

But as to YOUR point, I agree. Easy to get excited and hot headed in spring.

i think the stupid factor goes up when it gets hot

i saw a kid, must have been a teen ager doing a wheelie on the 101 freeway in Hollywood the other day, of course he was wearing a tank top and sneakers. It was spring break

we had a good winter here with many days over 80 degrees and almost no rain, i can tell when the new riders are in front of me and around me, just weaving in and out of traffic. nearly every morning there is a report of a motorcycle accident on the Southern California freeways.

If you want to keep yourself from getting in trouble, especially on the highway, at higher speeds, then here is your best solution: get another bike.

lol, if you think I'm joking, or saying get rid of the Panigale, it's neither. I've realized that this bike, like a lot of sport bikes, is really just stoopid fast on the road, and it's easy to do things you maybe shouldn't. So here is my solution: I'll keep the Panigale on the road for another year and a half (time to pay off bike, save up some money), and then I'm taking it off the road, only to be ridden on the track. I will then no longer be purchasing a sport bike for the road, but rather some sort of naked bike. Can I still get in trouble with a naked bike? Absolutely. Is it harder? A bit. If you've ever ridden a bike without a fairing and windscreen on the highway, you know what I'm talking about. The wind pressure becomes downright miserable very shortly from high speeds.

So, this is my plan to keep myself out of trouble in the future....at least on the road ;) to the track!!! :D

where you on b4011 last weekend?

If that was you (white leathers; back pack), kudos for the skills; too quick for me on the road. :)

I used to hold my own in the bottom half of the fast group in track days but perhaps I am too old nowadays.

I did enjoy the fun though.
