I've had a R1 and daytona 675r, sold everything, got married and all that jazz and now im looking to get a bike again.

Never owned a ducati but have wanted one and came across a 2012 1199 panigale with 16k miles on it. Dealer says it has had its 15k service done and they are looking for $12k for the bike. Cosmetically it looks spotless, has no upgrades other than a tail tidy kit.

1) is this a fair ballpark they are asking?
2) is there anything specific I need to be looking at for a ducati or the 1199?

Is it a base 1199? IIRC, the forks on the base 1199 would lose rebound control or had crappy oil seals. Maybe both, I can't remember.

$12K for that year with comparable miles seems consistent with the listed prices on Cycle Trader.

ETA: Is this it?

well I'll be damned, yes that is it and yes its base. its localish to me, found it looking up shops in the area. didnt know it was on cycletrader.

I was originally looking for a 899 or 959 but prices seem to be higher...was hoping to stay at 11k and under out the door. Would spring for an extra grand with this if it was worth it.

It’s pretty common for dealers to list inventory on Cycle Trader, etc.

That bike has aftermarket rearsets and it looks like the link to the rear swing arm is aftermarket. Not that it’s a problem or anything.

Well we're going to find out in 2 weeks when I pick it up

My wife told me to get it while our daughter is young and still cheap. The wife is always right so called them up this afternoon!

Cool, I think you will enjoy it. I have a 2014 base, only problems I've had so far are leaking valve cover ( loctited the bolts and that fixed it) and the shifter return spring broke on me at 18k miles. Its a fun bike, wouldn't trade it for a newer one.

Looking forward to it, it's certainly a pretty bike. Fork seals and minor things like your experience I can handle. Used to race MX so I'm no stranger to tearing apart engines and suspension but I hate doing engine valves. Was very happy they had that done and the receipts to prove it.

My valves were in spec at the 15k mile service, I doubt I'll ever get them checked again. Enjoy your bike!

Appreciate it.

Little iffy on the rear sets. Only place I seem to be able to find them is AliExpress. Might be first on the list instead of an exhaust.

Hope your enjoying your 1199.... my 1199s has never given me any trouble. I kept my OEM rearsets and just changed the footpegs for Rizoma for better grip. For me that did the trick and is all I need.

The biggest improvement I did for my 1199 is removing the stock exhaust cans and putting race Termignoni silencers. I kept the stock headers for now. I did the Upmap T 800 and it really change the bike for the better. The main reason I did the exhaust modification was to reduce heat, and that worked well. I did also aftermarket rear sets to give me more legroom, but that’s pretty much all the bike needs in my opinion.

Yep a new slip-on is definitely in the cards for me plus a 41 tooth rear sprocket.

With the 1199, and I think it was depending on the year, the OEM footpegs were super slippery. I replaced them with the Ducati Performance pegs. I did a full Akrapovic system and a Tuneboy setup that added cruise control. I really miss that feature.

You can always give them a try. Probably better than the OEM ones.

I think you're right though.

I bought 2 sets, one for spares after recommendation from Marmoot who used to be on here with an 1199. I think $80 each, loctited everything replaced a few critical bolts and had to trim a shim for the brake pedal but otherwise fine. Not DP racing level but perfectly ok if you intend falling off! Only problem is the pegs are not grippy but nothing for someone with a lathe to do some knurling on them or half an hour with a triangular file.

Haven’t had many issues with the 1199s over the years. Only things from recollection MAP sensors, clutch slave, fork seals and fork caps (the latter though is on the electric Ohlins which won’t be an issue. Also swapped out pegs and exhaust (termi slipons). Oh and the OEM seat is rock hard, the race one is much better.
