Hello Gents,

I am about to start in my first race with the 1199 which is a new experience for me. Both the 1199 and racing the 1199 (I have been hobby racing CBRs, R6, and 999 so far). I have had 5 track days with the Pani since I bought it and has been a new category for me primarily for the power...
As I will have very limited opportunities to test getting off the grid, I would appreciate any advice on best practice(s).
Note: no launch control on my 1199S...

Thanks in advance!

Get the revs to around 8k, and feather the clutch. practice practice practice. When you go out for your practice sessions, and before you grid up for the races, take a practice launch. Once you get comfortable, raise the rpms to around 9k.

Thanks Leon! In fact, I have to clarify a bit... Once I am moving: should I rely on DQS from 1st to 2nd? I have my doubts as I tend to overrev in 1st. Or should I try and start in 2nd straight away? Or should I chip away the throttle from 1st to 2nd? Or should I use clutch?
Those are my questions.

Slip the clutch, don't dump it. Slip it a little bit to avoid wheelies while starting to feed throttle. Aggressive throttle, but don't whack it open to minimise wheeliesm

Thank you all, now I have directions to set my mind on and will start practicing accordingly.

RB and any other upgrades will need to wait till next season. Budget you know...

Cool . Just don't over complicate your starts . I always qualified well and got ...... starts but my best starts have always been just looking at the lights to go out listening to the revs of the motor without over revving .
Starts are the most dangerous place on the track just get away clean and just keep on practicing it's one thing we never practice enough .
Good luck .

Gotcha Sir! I have done numerous race starts with 600s and the 999 (with which I never ever got a start right) so the situation is known to me. The novelty is in the Pani with the torque and power I respect rather more than due especially off the line in 1st and 2nd.

Just don't whack the throttle open like 600.if you do, it will wheelie and you lose time
