Thanks for posting this. The results are almost exactly what I predicted to one of my friends, except with the BMW S1000RR in third and the ZX-10R in 4th.

So, I'm a pretty happy Man looking at these results... I suspect the 2015 Panigale 1199R will be faster still than the Yamaha and the 1299, but I think the decision to buy the 1299 was the right one for me.

I suspect we should all be congratulating Ducati on raising their game.

Oh, no doubt Yamaha has raised their game BIG time... But I was pretty sure that with their MotoGP dominance (along with Marquez on the Honda), they were going to hit one out of the park on this one. The Ducati was the one I wasn't sure of. I know from experience that the BMW S1000RR is a freaking monster and that the ZX10R is also really good, so seeing the 1299 come in a very close second allays my fears that it wasn't going to live up to my expectations.

What did the 1299 dyno? Any acceleration numbers? Can't see the small print.

Not really fair, why is the ape not in it?

Whoopazz, MCN says Aprilia and MV declined to participate because they both have new models coming in the (northern hemisphere) spring.

Looking at those figures the Yamaha must work really well as a package to produce the lap times it did.

Based on this magazine result, looks like you should have bought the R1.

I really don,t understand why anyone worries what some other guy who works for a magazine can do on a track, and then bases decisions on that. Sure its enjoying to read, especially if the bike you own wins. For most of us riding for fun or commuting on the road it means nothing to the experience we will have with the bike we choose. I say buy for passion don,t buy what we some other dude tells us is the best. IMHO.

I completely agree to buy with passion, for most people to really run the bikes to their potential is rare, yes there are those of us that can but not all. I honestly believe it comes down more to rider ability, the current crop of superbikes are all good. So buy the bike that moves you, the one that provokes passion, the speed will be there.

I don't put much stock in mc rags reviews . that being said I was surprised by two things one being that yamaha made such a good bike - such a leap forward. two that the distance between the top two and the rest was so great. I just thought the lap times would have been less cut and dry . my personal opinion is that the .7 second lap times tween yamaha and ducati would be close enough to call it a draw.
I know my 1098 wasn't the best track bike ever , but out of the bikes I've owned it was the one I really remember - I remember the grin it put on my face under my helmet every time I apexed a turn and grabbed some throttle . that bike was an absolute blast to ride.
the reviews of the 1199/1299 I've read say it is an absolute riot to ride. I'm convinced that is soul and spirit of a twin.
it also helps when you get to talk to someone you trust and respect who has been aroud the track with the bike whether it be Portimão circuit or some local track that feedback is golden to me .

I most certainly didn't buy the 1299 based on any magazine test, or anyone else's opinion. Given that I put my deposit down 3 months ago before any reviews had come out at all. I always loved the way the 1199 looked and its lighter weight, but as I have posted elsewhere, I couldn't live with the lack of midrange and the heat. On reading the specs on the 1299, it seems Ducati had dealt with the issues I personally had with the 1199, so I took it on faith that the 1299 was going to be a fit for me. My last Ducati was a 998R and I freaking loved that bike and I hope the 1299 makes me feel the same way.

lol are you kidding for a mere 18k more than the r1 thats right 18k give or take you can get the R. yea ducati you are doing things right. you are still not first but still most expensive.

hell you can get the 2 r1 or an r1 and one of the others for the price of the R. you have to be on crack to want the new r over any of these other bikes.

sure does look good though so i guess it really doesnt matter we all do things that make no sense. look at me i have 3 bikes makes no sense

80 shilling - if you think you won't feel the heat off the 1299 you're kidding yourself.

Just for some context, here are the qualifying times from the 2014 SSTK race at Jerez. The testers turned a 1:50.08 on the R1 and a 1:50.79 on the 1299. Not bad considering bone stock bikes. Gearing and suspension alone would have likely knocked a few seconds off.
