melting fairing!!!

I thought the little heat shield provided to add to the fairing with the Termi full system was cute... I opted for a little more coverage on the new replacement fairing.

BTW, the full system is a great fix for the spring problem since its in a different location an no longer touches the fairing. :D

Just wanted to give a quick little update on my melted fairing situation. Got a call from the dealer about my two month old 2014 Pani S and they said that they have a new lower fairing, new spring and new "exhaust piece" to put on the bike. I'm curious to see what exactly this new exhaust piece is. I've got an appointment for first thing Friday morning to have everything swapped out and I'll update again then if anyone else is interested in seeing what seems like ducati's most recent solution to this melted fairing issue.

Don't let the curiosity kill you because it's NOT a solution. Where the spring is welded on is inconsistent from pipe to pipe. They just keep sending new ones in hopes it will be far enough away and "fix" the issue...it doesn't...2,800mi and I am going on my 4th lower and 3rd mid pipe.

Ah, that makes sense then. Forgive me if I'm wrong, 11 pages later and my memory is a little fuzzy but why do I feel like someone mentioned that they "turned" or rotated a section of the pipe where it is so close to the fairing so that it's not so close anymore? Am I going nuts or would this be a possible solution worth mentioning to my dealer on Friday?

JustDucky is right about how they're(DUCATI) handling the issue.

It seems to be hit and miss as to where the loop is attached to the tubing from one piece to the next.

Mine is 12,000 kms down the track now, and on it's original piece of exhaust tubing with no serious problems related to burning paint from the welded piece, as others have reported since from the beginning of production.
Except for a very small spot of paint where there is a slight exhaust leak right at the rear joint of the piece of exhaust tube in question.
The hot exhaust gas is blowing straight out of the joint and onto the lower rear edge of the plastic cut out, thus causing a very small black burn on the paint at the edge that you have to actually bend down and look for in order to see it.

It's more like super hot carbon that's blasted out of the joint and burnt into/impregnated the paint.
Almost like my Italian beauty has a small beauty spot on her lower belly at the panty line:)

I wouldn't stress about your situation.
And if I recall correctly that solution didn't really work out, as the tube ultimately rotated back to where it was originally, with the same result.
Just keep playing the warranty game until they get it right.
The more trouble it causes DUCATI, the more motivated they will be to minimize the problem in the future designs.

Just do what I done......take it to your local dealer and get them to relocate the spring hanger. They should do it free of charge

Take a deep breath and get your reading glasses on  So I said I would update you guys on what the dealer does for me regarding the melted fairing on my two month old 2014 and I picked up the bike yesterday finally. They replaced the lower fairing, and put on a new mid-pipe with spring and my first impressions are that it seems to fix the issue from what I can tell. Idk if I just got lucky and got a mid-pipe that was actually done correctly, if Ducati actually fixed the problem and are slowly integrating these for everyone to fix the issue or if I'm just nuts and this is all just me being hopeful. Below are some pictures but be warned, they are from an iPhone, in my garage, I am by no means a photographer and it's kind of a weird angle to capture.

The first picture appears that the spring hanger is pretty close to the fairing when in reality it's actually not even close.

As you can see in these two pictures, the spring and hanger is located moreso on the bottom of the pipe instead of the side like the original one I had was which creates that space between it and the fairing, seemingly fixing the issue, for me at least. Time will tell though.

Side note: See that ugly ass residue in the first picture that appears to be what's left after a warning sticker has been removed from the exhaust can? Any ideas how to remove it, as it has been there since day 1 and I've tried a green scotchbrite pad and steel wool with goo gone which did nothing. Got desperate, used 150 grit sandpaper very very lightly and gently which indeed worked but I was too worried about it scarring up the area from being too abrasive and looking even worse than the residue (or whatever it is).

My tech submitted the warranty pic ages ago and finally received and installed the replacement mid pipe. He was going to get the original pipe bracket relocated but it would have cost more so we waited.

I don't know why it took so long to come up with a fix since we figured it out in about 2 mins.

Hey All,

My fairing melted as well and was covered under warranty. I went in and got it replace and then drove home which was an hour ride. I inspected the area after the ride and the new piece was now melting. I called the dealer and they said there was no fix offered by Ducati so they just replaced the fairing, did they not think this would happen again ??

I pressed the issue and they called the North America Ducati rep. After a week I got an answer and it is as follows. Ducati is aware of this issue and they have redesigned the stock exhaust to accommodate for this problem. So the dealer is now installing a brand new exhaust on my 1199s which is being shipped from Ducati. Waiting now on the exhaust to come in and to take it in to get the work done.

I will let you all know how it goes and if this is a fix.

Highly doubt that will fix the issue.

The positioning of the midpipe is too close to the fairing. Only way I could imagine there being a permanent fix is simply taping the inside of the fairing with reflective heat tape. Went through two melted fairings when I was on my stock exhaust n then got a third one when I installed my akras but made sure I put the reflective tape. 700+ miles so far and no melted fairing!

Has anyone experienced the melting fairing issue with say a Termi full exhaust or does this seem to be directly related to solely the mid pipe section on the stock exhaust? Reason I'm asking is because I've got a full Termi that's ceramic coated waiting to be put on and it would really blow if that pipe started melting the fairing again like my first stock system did, not two months into owning the bike.

yes it will melt, mine did.

Covered under warranty

Placed tape on it where it melted, no issues now

WOW!!! 12 pages now, .... that's a lot of fairings melted =(
i suppose i should update it, since i was the OP... after my 4th lower fairing, i worked out a very good price for the Termi Full Sys with the dealer and everything has been fine since. (full system dont have the same spring attach point on the mid-pipe)
