melting fairing!!!

I'm down... just got a bunch of cardboard and markers ready to make signs. just let me know the time and place.

My 13 has a melted fairing, too. I put some heat tape (triple layer) down there for now. Is there a better solution?

I tried to put a small length of rubber hose around the exhaust cleat, but that melted too. :) I don't know how to tell if your bike has the "rubber spacer" fix, but mine is a 13 as well and is melted just like a '12. *shrug*

I have the full Termi, so not sure if the welds are in different places, but my dealer put a "rubber" washer between the weld and spring to protect the fairing.

Dumb question: How did they secure the rubber washer to the pipe?

+1 show and tell time

Ok, first my fairing didn't burn. But, when they fitted my Termi they noticed that the weld and pipe was very close to the fairing. If you look under the right side fairing towards the rear, the point between the rear brake and right peg. There's a weld with a hook and spring on my termi. They bent the weld away and put a rubber washer at the closest point where the pipe is to the fairing.

...SO what you're saying is I could bend the weld away. I've never been a fan of my method.

That hook and spring (I called it a cleat, but whatever) actually touches my fairing, hence the melting.

Mine is a 12 Panigale S with full termi.........I found the right lower fairing melted too.......they then put on the new 11mm rubber spacer on while I claim for a new right lower panel.

Are you saying you had this one fault and are considering selling your bike because you read about problems other people have had?

Bronch,

Yep, definitely thinking about selling. There's no point in waiting for the inevitable to happen. When I spend this much money on something I expect it to work first time every time, and unless it is my fault something has broke I expect to be able ride a bike that allows me to be part of a fairly unique 'family' every day if I want to. I had a Yamaha R6 prior to this and never had 1 fault in 7 years of owning it. I know this fault is fairly minor but when in my opinion you own the Ferrari of the bike world then I don't want scorch marks on it anywhere. This bike should only ever look in 2 conditions: A) absolutely pristine ('cos you've just washed it) or B) covered in dead flies, after you've been out for a blast with your mates. I will however wait on making a final decision after seeing the dealer next week, if Ducati are willing to put a new section of fairing on it then it will make it very hard to walk away. On the other hand if I have to fight to get parts replaced, Ducati will be getting their bike back and i'll be off to see Mr BMW

You better get rid of it soon. I've heard the paint is real soft too and you don't want to deal with a bike you paid that much money on having subpar paint do you?

Rumor has it the heat output is far above what an R6 or BMW puts out and that is ridiculous, especially when you've paid so much for the Ferrari of motorcycles. I've also read that many of these Panigale motorcycles have their dash fog up and break or need replacing. You should sell yours before this happens to you!!

I wonder if Ferrari automobiles are as dependable and carefree as a Honda.

Good luck.

Kakaka..........I agreed with the above.......that's why I owned an lotus Exige ......then 2eleven.......n a few monsters n 1098s n now Panigale S.
I got blasters on my 2eleven body shells too!!!
Lotus sport just shipped me FREE of charge a FULL body shells......including the rear spoiler too!
If it is my EDC firearms .....or my full closed circuit rebreather... I sure needed it to go BANG every time .......anytime no matter what !
But when it's my beloved super bikes n track cars.......a little bugs here n there........that's perfectly fine with me !
Unless I am a Pro racer of course..........
Each to his own.
I just love little Motorsport companies with racing history.........especially those that take "Light Weight" seriously!!!
Oh........those who had tracked or raced Ferrari knows better when ur talking about reliability........kakaka.

heat reflective foil tape on underside of fairing. It really works.

What brand are you using? I put on some cheap stuff I found at the local auto store (it was all I could find) and I'm not convinced that its doing its job. The tape itself is starting to burn!

Not 100% sure as I had my tape left over from 13 years ago when I was working on my supercharged Camaro headers. I did a search and it looks like Thermaflect Tape (trade name). It is multi layered adhesive-fabric-foil-acetate. I believe the acetate blew off in the wind but all other layers holding well. It is freaking hot right by the spring on the exhaust and that is where I lined my fairing, the thin fairing section back and around the bulge in the fairing. It is definitely holding up. I have 1mm gap between that spring weld joint and the fairing by way of washer placed on the fairing screw (rearmost). The rubber standoff that came with the bike is not enough to keep the fairing off the exhaust. I stood it off more with the rubber washer made from fuel line and the fairing is out more now but does not contact the brake pedal lever. Hope this helps, I have no worries about fairing melting anymore but when I take in for service I need to inform of the extra part so that they don't muck up the re-install. I need to bond the standoff rubber washer to the fairing so that it stays there when removing fairing. I kinda wish the fairing design and assembly was more robust, seems like a fragile part of the bike that can withstand reinforcing on multiple points including mounting points. Nonetheless, the fairings are beautiful and does the job so no real complaints here.
