special set of circumstances to win? are you remotely serious here. the guy is a 5 time world champion. i guess all those circumstances happened just right last year. i guess they are there this year also as he is in second place once again out racing the so called number 1 yamaha rider who hasnt done a thing since 09. i guess he was under an amazing set of circumstances in 2010 with one of the greatest seasons ever by a rider. this is one of the dumbest statements i have ever read that JLO needs special circumstances to win take a look at the guys record. you may not like him you may think he is boring or whatever the case but to deny him his respect as a rider is just BS.
Yes, a special set of circumstances to win. He needs:
1. A bike where he can properly feel the front end.
2. A tire that gives him the traction and confidence for his style.
3. His head on straight.
Of all the top riders Lorenzo is by far the streakiest. On his day he can walk away from everyone. Not on his day and he can finish 10th or 15th like he did at Assen and the Sachshenring this year. You don't see that kind of drop-off from the other top riders - a bad day for Marquez is 5th.
Yamaha has given Lorenzo a bike that suits his style for years now and he's been fast on it. Bridgestone's front suited his style down to the ground. The Michelin front less so. Lorenzo is not as able to change his style as Marquez is, not as adaptable as Stoner either.
So yes, Lorenzo requires a special set of circumstances to win. Those circumstances have been largely provided by Yamaha and Bridgestone over the years. Will they continue to be provided by Ducati and Michelin? We'll have to see. The Michelin front works in a much narrower temp range than the Bridgestone front does which causes him problems. And like I previously noted, he has proven less adaptable to changes than some of his competitors.
I don't have any fanboy-ism or hater-ism left in MotoGP. My favorite rider died in 2011. No one has come along that I like as much. I like to watch all these guys ride and I can appreciate what they do on a bike - every one of them. They're all different and they all have different strengths - and weaknesses. When Lorenzo is on, he's pretty much unbeatable. Marquez, Pedrosa, they all get left behind. But he isn't always on. Which is actually fascinating to me. The same way Marquez is fascinating because he is soooo adaptable to changing situations.
It's amazing how you take two words and turn them into something I didn't say. Where did I deny Lorenzo respect? Where did I say he was boring and where did I say I didn't like him? You made all that .... up on your own. It's like you have your own "jump to conclusions" mat on the floor, and every ....... square says "act like an ......".
