motoxpricambi.com fairings…a cautionary tale

I met these folks at their factory at Verona, last year. Seemed to be genuine folks. Showed me their workshop. They don't paint anything in their plant, just decal printing. I was interested to pick up a fairing for my 1299 and had a good chat. Well, long story short, found out that their fairings are made in China. They play fast and loose with their promises. Sorry to hear about the paint issues.

You mean, they (Race track Fairing Moto XP: Race Fairings, Motorcycle bodywork, Aprilia, BMW, Ducati, MV Agusta, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Triumph) fairings are made in China?

The china thing makes sense after seeing what they provided first hand. If it was a genuine Ducati part, why would the manufacturer logo be burned off? I’m sure in China it would still say Ducati, but they likely had to remove them to get imported to either Italy or the US.

I sent a message through their website about the missing front fender and quality issues. I received a reply this morning saying....

"Hello,

That’s actually a mistake in the description, I’m sorry. On Panigale V4 2020 and 2023 models we don’t include the front fender as those kits are Ducati original fairings and they don’t include it to us

Best regards

Gianluca"

They didn't bother to address the quality problems at all.

Pretty disappointing.

I’ve traded emails with Gianluca, in which, he asserted they use oem ducati fairings. I wonder how he can make such a directly false assertion without legal consequence.

Maybe they are seconds from whomever supplies Ducati? For the most part they fit good, but the left lower sits a little proud of the left upper. Kind of an annoyance, but defiantly not as much as the poor color consistency and the amount of defects and trash in the paint. There isn't one panel without a few dust nibs etc.

They were also suppose to come with heat shield for the lowers, which they didn't. That was easy to sort out. @Alkhater I presume the DP lowers have similar torx screws to attach the black plastic to the lowers?

Welcome to my world. Didn’t even realize offer a solution. Grab a screen shot of the advert and description and then reverse the charge on your card. That’s false advertising

Hands down the best and probably the cheapest way to get a spare set of fairings that fit perfectly are to get the OEM race set, then paint them. Everyone has a friend or friend of a friend who can paint, for track you could just leave them, sticker them or if it's matt black just do a rattle can job! I painted my spare set after I borrowed a mates compressor and gun, while its a bit of a learning curve if you don't do it much, they came out mint.

All that said, for track you want fibreglass fairings not carbon, CF is expensive if you keep crashing but since a lot of the reason for getting it is cosmetic its impossible to repair perfectly unless you paint them. Whereas FG is much tougher and easy to repair, even trackside. The OEM fairings are pretty good in small offs, but where the wings mount will usually break.

It should still have the material code on it which give the properties of the ABS how much reinforcement etc, check your OEM ones for comparison. At this point I would be going nuclear on them for false advertising.

With matt paint, the finish has to be "off the gun" since you can't get rid of nibs by rubbing it back or you will get a shiny patch. If this was done in any halfway decent paint facility there would be no nibs. How do I know, I painted a set of fairings matt in my workshop and they came out perfect even with a rudimentary booth setup.

Comparing the date codes, I don't think they're Ducati parts. Here are pics of the underside of the battery cover. If someone can post a pic of the underside of a known DP battery cover, I'd be much appreciative. The burned off area is smaller than the section containing the Ducati logos. The date code is also positioned slightly different. Its positioned much more differently on the other fairings.

and......CF doesn't have to be 5 times as expensive.........ive told you a million times not to exaggerate!
The MotoXP fairings were $1,017 USD (price without the wings and hardware). CF would be about $3.6K USD on the high end, $3K USD on the low. So not quite 5 times.

On your other point, I haven't found a place in the US that sells painted street style Ducati Panigale V4 fairings. There's places that sell track fairings, but not street ABS.

Probably the cheapest route to unfuck MotoXP's nonsense fuckery is a local painter.

I am not sure about this. The only Italian company I know that uses OEM fairings for decals and paint is Vulturbike. They source the fairings directly from Ducati HQ or from the Naples / Salerno dealer. Among the Italian folks I know, most of them told me that motoxp is well known locally for using China made fairings, but the fairings are for track use.

Plastic is plastic. I don't take exception with the China as much as dude flat out wrote that they use genuine Ducati (which I quoted from an email he sent me) which doesn't seem to be the case. I was able to get the lower to fit correctly, but the paint is what it is. Had I purchased track fairings for use at the track, I wouldn't worry about some dust nibs etc. I think if someone is selling something as street fairings, its set one up for a different expectation. And, that they all match. 🤬 That's my biggest problem. Nothing a re-paint can't fix I guess.
