motoxpricambi.com fairings…a cautionary tale

I received an email back today in regards to the left upper fairing not matching. I think it's painfully obvious that it doesn't match too.

In an effort to be agreeable and fair, I've asked for a partial refund with the acknowledgement that return shipping would be prohibitively expensive. I imagine I'll end up disputing it with PayPal.

This sounds so familiar… Sorry you have to go through this. PayPal is usually pretty good. Just be aware that PayPal protection doesn’t cover custom orders so just be careful that they don’t try to pull a fast one on you.

So is there anywhere in the USA that make this .... or not?

and......CF doesn't have to be 5 times as expensive.........ive told you a million times not to exaggerate!

Not in the US, but in Canada/Montreal there is a company called MotoComposites that’s sells pretty good CF parts for the whole bike at reasonable prices that I’ve had good luck with. The one quality issue I had in one of a dozen things I bought from them they were very responsive on and handled it very fairly to my satisfaction.

I think they’re hit or miss. I ordered a chain guard for an 03 gsxr 1000 that wasn’t close to fitting. When I mentioned the issue to my builder, he nodded his head unsurprised and said he’s heard the same from many people.

This was my reply to their "I can't understand the problem" email.

Attached was a picture of my OEM battery cover and of their "Ducati" battery cover. Same pictures used in this thread.

I got this reply:

Since he said to return them, that's what I'll do. If there any issues after I'd dispute it with PayPal or my credit card company if need be.

Thanks to all for the support though. I took special offense to the notion that I was scamming them.

Would you trust them for something as big as a upper V4 fairing?

Nah. Don’t throw good money after bad. PayPal dispute and if paypal says pay shipping then follow that. But you were hoodwinked by this company 100%. Bait and switch. If he wants them returned then shipping should be on them. You did nothing wrong by not accepting this trash

Did the box have a ”country of origin” sticker or customs paperwork?
Yes, but I'd have to re-read it see if there was any significant content. What do you think would be the significance of it? China vs. Italy?

I accept that there was some hoodwinking going on, but in situations like this, its been my experience if you allow someone to save face you can get closer to your goal than by brut force. In an ideal situation, they'd send me a shipping label, I'd package everything to the best of my ability and receive a full refund. I wouldn't expect that result. At the end of the day both parties will suffer a loss, but my goal is to make sure no one else here suffers the same fate.

Why do you have to pay for someone else’s problem? If they were honest they’d either put out a good product or have good enough customer service that would take care of you.

If they’re saying they’re making the fairings in Italy but in reality they were drop shipped from another country then it’s more ammunition for your dispute

I doubt they were drop shipped for the simple fact that the wings were in what seems to be genuine Ducati packaging.

I have bunch of fairings I don't want due to poor paint quality and obvious knock off origin, but yelling at the top of a mountain isn't going to get me what I want. They have my money. We have to reach acceptable terms. Again, I've been as transparent and honest as I can be, and I hope someone else doesn't suffer the same fate.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, I just see more expense and time in trying to recover more.

@bp_SFV4 Hopefully it gets resolved sufficiently and then you can put it behind you and not still be whining about it a year later. 👍 🤣

It’s tricky when you buy stuff internationally and it doesn’t work out - I find having to return stuff rather inconvenient but when the cost of returning is rather significant it becomes more costly than either side would like.

Mistakes and miscommunications happen, but the logo being removed is something that seems extremely suspicious, to put it mildly.

I believe that PayPal tends to favour the buyer over the seller in disputes, but I guess we’ll see if that’s right. Good luck!

@bp_SFV4 budget race fairings need to be evaluated as race fairings. They will usually not and should not be expected to fit as nice and clean as OEM fairings. After all, you spent $1100 on a set of fairings AND paint, correct? Just paint alone from Svenson would be $1500 plus fairings, so that's your benchmark.

I agree that two different shades of black is concerning. But its not that bad. Race bikes have to look clean, not pretty. What is the cost of time of you unbolting everything, packing, sending to Italy and then starting over and re-ordering and re-installing?

I don't disagree, but to claim they are genuine Ducati parts which they are obviously not, is wrong. For them to claim I'm scamming them is wrong as well. To be confronted with the picture of the uppers very obviously not matching and to write, "I can't understand the problem" is dubious in the least, delusional at worst.

I got an email from them this morning in which they wrote "but first of all you cancel the post also on the Ducati forum" claiming their email disclaimer somehow prevented anyone sharing such information. Anyone with half a brain can see through that nonsense. Email disclaimers cannot unilaterally impose a contract on another party.

There are laws I'm quite sure in the US and Europe which prevent someone from obtaining counterfeit merchandise and selling it, then even directly claiming it to be a genuine product.

The were never fully installed, but I'm not really considering the cost of my time in this equation. However, the cost to ship a rather large box across the world is a cost I have to consider. In the end though, I don't know if I'd trust that they'd do the right thing after they tried to bully me with an email disclaimer, which is laughable.

As they are aware of this post, perhaps they might consider it would look better if they deal with the situation professionally rather than trying to get you to remove the post.

Unfortunately, some people view these types of posts as an attack that they have to defend against rather than an opportunity to show good customer service and give people reasons to use them.
