MWR High Eff. or Race Filter 1199 need-to-know

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

i hope so! did you put it in the bike already?

No not yet as I dont get the bike for 2 weeks.

First I will run it in then dyno it, then during service put the Ceramic coated 70mm headers on, dyno, then filter and tuner and dyno again.

Ill put up all the graphs when I have finished.

Wish I had your number today man. Tried doing this MWR HE filter install with two buddies (members) and have to say this is one of the most tedious and difficult jobs ever on a Ducati! Damn airbox is so small having to contort both my hands and filter assembly in unreal methods. I am pretty damn handy, and with two other Ducati minded guys ya think this would be a breeze, NOT!

Gunny,

You crack me up man.

This is an easy install, trust me, and yes, there are some how to picture threads on some of the forums with it (just don't ask me for the link because I don't have it).

That said, it is easier, and safer to install this filter than the original.

To install this filter it's so easy that it's no use to to make vids or photo's .

Take std filter together with the complete holder out , bend the two sides of the MWR holder a bit to the middle and slide the complete filter with holder inside the airbox , now place it in front of the airbox where the std filter is also installed and click the holder behind the two edges on both sides, ready and done.....

I agree had mine installed in a few short mins. It was more of a PITA to get the tank vent hoses back on. There's virtually no slack

i have 2 things to say here.

1 if you get this filter and have the 41t sproket and termi slips with the most current map do you need to get a new map for the more free flowing air? do you have to tune the bike? seems to me that you spend all this cash on the filter then more cash for a tune. when i called ducati and they say the air filter is already high performance. not only that why not get bwc, filter looks way easier to get in and out and we are talking little gains here anyway none of us are casey stoner.

2 now i am by no means a mechanic, however i know my way around this bike and i have had it apart a few times doing installs. only thing i didnt do myself was the termis because i got them at such a good price i let the stealership do them. that being said doing this airfilter was A NIGHTMARE. seriously randy with all due respect knowing you are very knowledgable with bikes you are wrong on this one. there are no instructions on the Facebook page. i even googled it and nothing came up. a before and and after pictures showing the tabs secured thats it. it was like i took a picture of my rearsets off then on and said thats the install. nothing stating to remove that clip in the middle of the air box. nothing stating not to pull the tabs in too much because they wont make a secure fit. i would never ever get the race one i would dread having to pull it out and clean it every other weekend.
as a matter of fact i was jealous that gunny had one and i didnt till the install and i was like no thank you. ill keep it stock or get bmc.

All I can say is that it is an easy install, I have never had any trouble with it - ever.

I can't speak for other people, other people have called me to get help when attempting to install simple things, like clutch pressure plates, gas caps, foot pegs, etc...

That said, if anyone is even considering the BMC, please read here - http://ducati1199.com/marketplace/4...ity-improved-rideability-all-under-200-a.html

This is not just a filter, and offers a lot more than simply "more flow".

That said, I'm backed up here cause Lyle crashed his Bimota, breaking his left arm on Friday, and had surgery today, so if you guys need a video, I'll make it for you, but give me a couple days to get caught up on emails and phone calls first.

No.

Simply installing the filter you will see an improvement in performance, and since you've already upgraded your map, your bike will run just fine.

Could you still improve it further with some fine tuning on the dyno?

Of course.

It needs to be understood that the Up Map vs custom tune is like buying your clothes off the shelf vs getting them custom tailored. Sure they fit, but nothing beats a tailored suit and not everyone wants to spend the money on it.

That is the BEST comparison I have ever heard.

Thank you sir!

So did anyone fit this and measure an improvement in power/performance?

It's common practice with Harley's to fit a free-flow air filter when you fit a performance (!) exhaust but it didn't occur to do this when I put the AR system on.

I might see if I can lay my hands on one as it makes sense to combine with new pipe.

Installed a BMC filter, termi Slip-ons and a 41T rear sprocket on my bike! Had the dealer here install them.:D Watched them do it. Termi slip-ons took longest to install followed by my new 41T sprocket and longer gold chain.

The BMC filter was a lot quicker and straight forward...saw them remove my tank, unclip the upper injectors, then they easily pulled out stock oem airfilter and put in my BMC filter... reinstall and re-clip upper injectors, reinstall tank, vent hoses and fuel line...done!

Was actually a 10minute airfilter job. Well that was the mechanics doing it...not me.:D

Love the way the bike runs now! So happy!!!!!! Just waiting for the updated exhaust heatshield to come in...Darn hot here in the Philippines = 37C at the moment! Wheeeew...its cookin' my right thigh and jewels!

This is the same process for the MRW filter. Not sure why some are having such a hard time?
