My Motorrad to Corse transition isn't going so smooth.

I found the 1098 to be a totally different bike to the 1199. The 1098 is a smooth bike lovely to ride - however, quite a few differences than the 1199.

My 1098 has a full Termi with no silencers and still the 1199 with a full Termi and silencers is louder. From the 1098, I really like how Ducati has evolved. Watch it though, you may get the craving to add a 1098 to your stable as well :D

I really love both the 1098 and 1199.

BTW Jet hot coating the end cans on the Termi makes it louder.

I'm with Cali on this one. For the life of me, I cannot discern or understand what the hoopla about the 1098 is for previous owners. I find it amazingly responsive to all input. It has a more linear throttle response. It has a raw edginess to the exits of high speed turns that gives incredible feedback regarding slip angle and wheel spin.

It is a fantastic ride. I actually get better feedback from it than the Pani. More viscerally connected.

As far as the 1199 wrist issue goes, I found that backing down on the EBC lifted much more weight from my wrists under braking. Adding the Luimoto seat cover to my stock seat gave added anti slide friction with it's short alcantara-like finish. Throw a pair of stomp grips on the tank and this also helped to prevent wrist loading when weight transfer would occur.

Ergonomically, holding my throttle wrist in the wider open position would after a while add fatigue to the area. This I adjust for just by repositioning to a more neutral position to match my left and weight distribution was much better and less fatigue as a result.

Hey boys, sorry for another one of "those" threads but I need some pointers/tips.

1) Right wrist vibrations (i know that it has been addressed). On the S1KRR, I won that battle with Motovation 300g bar end w/ Driven gel grips. I searched and searched here, only to find the "let go of the death grip" answer. Is that it? PS. Does anyone have the heavy Motovation or T-Meister ends? Any info would help:) I wear RS-Taichi EVO gloves, should I try gloves with more palm padding?

2) I did a 130 mile quick ride out of town yesterday, only to find my thighs on fire. I never been this sore in my life after two hours in the saddle. Is it the comfort seat causing it? Riding position crapping out on me?

3) I don't mind the heat :D...I am a sick pup like that.

PS. Pani is in for her 1st service right now and I got a '08 1098 as a loaner, Holy Moly what a smooth bike that it is in comparison. Not easy to ride but a lot more well behaved on the street, not as raw. No heat. No vibrations. No stalling drama :(

Castor,
I found the extra height of the comfort seat pushed me down into the bars and after 40 mins I had bad wrist pain in both wrists.. I am only 5 feet 8 and a half inches tall so I think that is a factor. If you are short like me then perhaps go back to the stock seat or try racing.

I am putting the comfort gel in my seat to soften it up for longer rides.

Like sydduc i rede in a hot area and the heat does not bother me but do not ride in heavy traffic and always wear leathers or kevlar lined jeans

Unfortunately both the brake and clutch brackets are seated on the handlebars, you can't adjust them. PITA, one of the first things I tried. Not sure if its been mentioned already but you could always try a heavier bar end to reduce vibration.

You have to loosen and rotate the entire clip-on to adjust the levers up and down.

I just got home and Pani is getting towed to the dealer, hard start/stall issue caught up with me...when i was trying to merge into traffic on one of Tampa's busiest streets. I brought it up to the mechanic yesterday, he said if it happens then he will remove the carbon canister and disable the exhaust valve. I will have them look closely at the fuel pump and it's wiring. This .... happened today in a pretty unnerving fashion. Days like these make me miss my S1RR

Remove the carbon canister asap! Probably the main reason for hard starters. If it's not a problem now, it will become one very soon. A slight overfill of the gas tank has fuel spilling into it which will clog it up and cause a vacuum problem.

Get the dealer to install the latest up-map for the 1199... it helps smooth out the power band.

My s1000rr is worse on my feet at the foot pegs!!!! The vibration from that BMW at 13,000 rpm+ will deaden your feet with race boots on. Trying to hold on to anything on the back straight with the BMW is great fun. The 1199 has me doing more work with the throttle and shifter to keep the revs up, but the 1199 handle bars really do not vibrate too bad on the track.

The BMW wants to tear your arms off on straight aways, and the Panigale wants to shave your knee sliders off on the turns. 1199 is VERY easy to corner.

Yes sir, my old girl is riding Pani up to the dealer's to get the canister removed, exh valve disabled and fuel pump checked over. Gotta love a broad that rides:p

I did the latest of the latest softwares on saturday. It feels a little better but still makes my wrist go heywire. I got a few things on the way to remedy it though.

BMW made my wrist scream for mercy until I upgraded the bar-ends, then it was tame. Rearsets weren't glorious but A TON better than Pani's sorry excuse for pegs. Yes top end rush of it made my turbo busa seem tame, wild machine indeed. Pani's weight difference throws me off by A LOT, i have some work cut out for me in the future, I have to re-learn how to ride again.

I had issues with mine in the beginning.

A few similar quirks. Your moving in the right direction. It will get better, and trust me the early growing pains are worth the enjoyment you will soon have.

Patience.

North run soon...

Hey, N-Runs are where I live:D. Indeed, next sunday (10th) I am free.

Hey Castor,

Dealers were warned about stalling after the software update, so I'm sure they know how to address this.

Good luck getting your other issues sorted :)

Regarding the original topic, I've had issues with long rides and my right going numb as well. I remember riding home from the dealer (from LA to San Diego), my right hand was completely numb half the way. Comfort seat didn't make much difference, I just kind of learned how to position my body differently and change the way I was pulling the throttle for extended periods of time. Have made many long trips with little discomfort, still creeps up now and then, but not a big deal at all.
Not sure what it is, I think its a combination of ergonomics, vibration and mostly putting pressure on the throttle, because it has never happened on my left hand. Vibration and all, wouldn't want the engine any other way.

I tend to agree with you. I think it has a lot to do with throttle pressure and I also have noticed that I don't maintain proper sportbike riding position on those long highway hauls. I tend to get fatigued or just plain lazy and end up leaning on the bars, etc. which contributes to the problem. I try to shift around now a lot and bought a crampbuster to try out, but I think the main problem is that these bikes are just not the best tool to do those kind of long road miles. I'll do them if I have to or to get to some good riding, but no matter what I do I probably won't like it. :)

Hey good buddy,

I think things are looking up for me. I just got his message from a tech at EuroCycles, he is a no ....... around type of a fella.

"ready to roll buddy. Evap canister removed, flapper valve disconnected, revised your chassis ground (poor ground connection has been an issue on a few bikes, just improved it while we were in there), reset all ECU adaptations and test rode for a while. Not stalling at all for us, hopefully it won't for you either. Lmk when to expect you."

Nice!!

Thanks, I may look at that. What I was trying to do was slide the clutch towards the grip, the shorter clutch lever is just a bit too short IMO.

exc news!

Picked Matilda up today and few things to mention:

1) Multistrada was my loaner bike and it is so bad ass...so bad ass:D
2) It runs very well and my wrists were happy on a 20 mile trip back. *knock on ....... wood*
3) Exhaust valve being disabled, it makes the bike a tad gutless below 4K. It is quite a bit noticeable.
4) Did I mention that Strada's ass is bad?
