I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2013 Panigale S. But I realized I have an interesting dilemma. And one that I'm hoping some of you can help me out with.

I live in a high-rise condo building with underground parking. I am out of town for 1-4 weeks at a time. Inside our parking garage, I do NOT have access to a electrical wall outlet. Therefore, it is NOT possible for me to plug in a battery tender in the garage while I'm away. From what I can gather, the battery will most likely die during my times away.

I figure I could pull the battery from the bike and leave it on a tender up in my condo each time I go out of town. But how easy/feasible is it to do this each and every time?

Do any of you have a better idea and/or suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

Not practical to pull the battery. But the battery won't mind being ignored for 4 weeks. I'd be more concerned about someone stealing the bike.

Solar - Products - Batterytender.com

if you have fluorescent lights in garage these *should* work or better yet run them in direct sun, if possible.

maybe also rig up a battery disconnect switch, if poss?

(edit: you may have odometer issues if you pull/disconnect battery, not that that really matters in light of your question.)

It is easy to pull the battery without pulling the fairing off. But I would try it out, 4 weeks is a long time, with an alarm it would never make it. Might consider a disk lock or other if that is even a concern.

You might get one of those boosters that can start a car without being plugged in, they are rechargable, and have that if the 4 weeks thing dosen't work out.

Also consider a lithium battery. They have far higher amp hours, and discharge slower.

I'm not concerned so much about the bike being stolen. My building and our garage has very strict 24 hour manned security and a secure manned gate. Having said that, I still do plan to, at the very least, place a disc lock on my bike.

It's sounding like pulling the battery each time I go out of town is not going to be practical. So that option is, most likely, out.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the suggestion, but unfortunately, I cannot take my bike up to my condo.

I do like the idea of putting a Shorai lithium battery in. Without an alarm activated, how long do you figure it will last in between rides?

4 weeks should not be an issue, I would just be prepared for it not starting the first time. Plus, really ride it for a bit after that, not just up to Bux and back, so it has time to charge. Taking it out, is just a few minutes. The cover snaps into rubber gromments, then the 2 screws in the terminals. But try the 4 weeks thing first, just as I say, be ready for it not starting that first time :)

Trauma...I appreciate the input...it looks like a Shorai lithium may be the way to go...

One clarification please...You say that "I should be prepared for it not starting the first time."

Do you mean that I should be prepared for my bike to NOT start at all after a prolonged period even with a Shorai lithium battery? OR that it may need to be cranked multiple times before it will eventually turn over?

What I meant, is after your first time of extended parking, don't text your buddies "I'll there in 5", then run downstairs and it didn't start :) Just test that first time when you have time to get it jumped or whatever "just in case" :)

I have the DP alarm fitted but use it only on the street and have had no hint of any cranking /starting troubles after 4 weeks in the garage, in fact I've never had any troubles with bikes that have wintered over for 6 months or so - I've never used a battery tender before.

Pouakai...I'm surprised to hear that you have no problems whatsoever after letting the bike sit in the garage for 4 weeks...Do you have a standard battery? Or a lithium?

Can others confirm that they have no problem starting up the bike after having it sit for 3-4 weeks? If so, is that with the standard battery? Or with a lithium?

I've got the original battery in mine and if I dont ride it for 3 weeks, I need to plug her in to charge it up....its a complete PIA. Reding this thread has made me wonder if I have problem battery, 4 weeks with Alarm on? If thats what you guys are getting maybe I should speak to my dealer?

Does anyone know how much current the Panigale alarm system draws? I haven't picked up my bike yet, so based my earlier comment on experience with the 1098, which had no problem starting after sleeping in a heated garage for weeks at a time.

Sounds like a lithium battery from Shorai may be the most appropriate solution for my situation. From what I can gather this is the best shot for getting the bike to turn over after sitting for 3-4 weeks.

I'm looking at the Shorai website. Are you guys talking about the Shorai LFX Standard? (MSRP $160)

Any other insights? Advice?

I bought the one on Shorai's site recommended for our bike (LFX14A2-BS12 ), and is fine. Some others ordered the next size up that is on some other 3rd party site for our bike. It's really going to be up to you if you want to spend a little more for one that weighs just a little more and has a bit higher cranking amps.

It sounds like you live a really nice building. I find it hard to believe that there aren't any electrical sources available. Even maintenance guys need access to juice.

If I were in your extact position, I'd befriend the highest level maintenance worker there; tell him the situation and say that there's a couple of hundred in it for him if he can help you solve this matter. Greasing the palm$ of your building's crew should be common practice for you (as it is here in NY) and it gets fast quiet results every time.

RSR Racer - I like your suggestion and would do that if it were remotely feasible...

I do live in a fairly nice building. We have an HOA that does a very good job of taking care of its residents. The flip side is that we have some very strict guidelines as to what we can and cannot do in and around the building.

In fact, we used to have electrical outlets in random places around the underground parking structure. And many of the residents did plug in battery tenders (for motorcycles and cars). About a year ago, the HOA decided that it was unsightly and was not in the business of giving away "free" electricity. As a result, they actually removed and sealed up those outlets.

After seeing everyone's posts, I'm convinced that a Shorai Lithium battery is the solution for me.
