Neutral IMPOSSIBLE!

Had the same problem today (had a hard time shifting into neutral), and tonight, when trying to bleed the slave cylinder, I've ended up with nothing--no pressure on the clutch level whatsoever. I've never had a problem bleeding the clutch slave on other bikes--normally when I loosen the bolt at the top of the slave with a bleeder attached and start pumping the clutch lever the fluid comes out, but basically nothing is happening. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I had the same problem, the amount of travel on the clutch lever was gradually reducing until i could no longer select neutral when using clutch. I found the clutch lever needed adhpjustment and all was good again. Next service will get them to see if the adjuster knob is slipping somehow or the cable stretching.

no cable on the clutch it's fully hydraulic.

markchristenson, your probably sounds different. Did you try bleeding from the master cylinder port (left lever) as a bleeder fitting is located there. Are you turning the fitting enough to open the bleeder port? Ami I to understand your lever is completely non-functioning now, in that you press it and it goes to the handle without disengaging the clutch? Dumb question but it does have fluid in the reservoir?

I'd say head to the dealer. A pain, but it'd be a warranty.

I had the same thing when the bike first starts. I ride to the end of my drive but have to get off to open the manual gate. When the engine is cold i could not get it into neutral again. A clutch bleed and refill by the dealer sorted it. Whilst the dealership says they could not find an issue, I believe it was air in the system.

Wow these clutches seem reliable!

My 1198S had the slave cylinder replaced under warranty for this issue.

This happened to me every 1000 miles or so. Bleeding it would fix it (for about 1000 miles). Dealer replaced the slave cylinder and master cylinder under warranty, although likely it was just the slave causing the problems. So far so good; however, I have only put on 450 miles last Saturday and so I've got at least another 550 to go before I have any indication that the fix is indeed a fix.
Ciao.

This has been covered before, I had this a couple of times, dealer will sort unless you just want to do it yourself. All you need to do is bleed the clutch fluid, probably just a bit of air in it, or replace the fluid if it looks real mucky. Should cure it straight away.

All the people that have had the slave cylinder replaced, did you have the fluid bled first to see if it cured it before?
