Hi all,
Picked up my new 1199 base model a few days ago. Quite a bit different than my 748:)
I love it but it has a leaking fork seal. Total bummer. The bike has under 50 miles on it.
It's going to the dealership tomorrow. We'll see what they can do for me.

I'd be surprised if they didn't take care of you.

Congrats on the new bike.:)

Assembly grease? I wish it was but I don't think so.
It's a really thin, clear oil.
If I wipe the fork clean, it will stay clean until I ride it. Then, even after 1 mile, oil will be running down the fork tube.
My initial thought was that it may have something to do with assembly but after watching it for a few days, I really don't think it is...

This has to be an installation issue. I was bummed out when my Ohlins started leaking before I had 10k on the S4RS and the 1098S.

WOW from a 748 to the 1199 that's 2 generations you missed out on 749/999 and 848/1098/1198. That's a big jump. So how do you like it? I have had every Ducati Superbike They have made and this 1199 just puts me beside myself, I can't put it into words what this bike is like. And I thought my BMW S1000rr was fast this bike is fast on another level.

Hey Anarchy919,
I absolutely love it.
Yeah, I bought my first Ducati in '92 (new 907ie). Then I went to a 900ss, then the 748 which I loved. I was "bikeless" for the last couple of years but got my wife to agree to an 1199 this year. Truthfully, I went to the dealership to look at an Aprillia RSV4 because I'm getting too old to change cam belts. The salesman introduced me to the 1199 and it was love at first sight.
Anyway, the technology on this bike is crazy. Like you mentioned, it's worlds away from the 748. Just the wet/slipper clutch alone is a noticeable difference.
I've only got about 50 miles on it due to the fork seal issue but suffice it to say I expect to be more than thrilled with it once that issue is fixed.
Anyway, going to the dealership in about an hour to get the fork looked at, then planning on putting on some serious miles this weekend.
Peace.

what happened?

soooooo??????hows the bike?

Congrats on the bike and ......Welcome!

Hope they sort the seal for you , dangerous to ride with it like that.

Here's a quick update for you all.
Sorry I've been away.
So, the dealer dropped the dust seal, cleaned up residue assembly grease and sent me on my way (since he didn't have any new seals anyway). It was good for about 15 miles but is leaking again and seems to be getting worse. At this point it will be dealt with at the 600 mile service which should be fairly soon. It's definitely a bad seal that needs to be replaced.
Carrying around a paper towel to wipe oil off my fork tube every time I get off the bike kinda sucks...

Fork Seals

Don't let them fit stock seals, they will leak within 200miles, total rubbish! i fitted Pyramid Parts seals to mine, far better and still going strong 2500 miles later, for some reason the 1199 eats stock seals. Also use the fitting grease they supply, i am sure it helps a lot! good luck.

If you're having a recurring problem with seals, maybe its a fork issue?

I don't recall seals being an issue for base or S models
