NEW 1200 monster in 2014

Interesting. From this right side pic, it's apparent that it's a stressed-engine chassis like the Pani, but with trellis subframes instead of the Pani's cast aluminum ones:

So Pani-style heads with studs for the (trellis) subframes, regardless of the rest of the internals - likely 11 degree MTS/Diavel-derived bottom end bits. End of the two-valve air coolers perhaps?

PS - gotta love those exhaust tips - trackday noise reg salvation for Pani owners? :p

New 1198 Monster for 2014?

Saw this pic on Facebook this morning. Is this the new 1198 Monster?

Apparently this is what greeted dealers in New Orleans when DNA debuted the '14 line....

The Monster 1200 will use the liquid cooled Testastretta engine which is currently used in the Diavel and Multistrada lineup..

I feel the bike will still retain the Trellis frame design to accomodate the larger displacement liquid cooled engine and handle like a champ.. the Monster has been one of their best selling models and this one is gonna get a lot of orders for sure..

looks sportier, lighter, more flickable compared to the diavel.

monster: allround fun machine
diavel: power cruiser

Hmmm... I take your point.... Diavel needs a bigger tank to be a cruiser though...

2014 Ducati Monster 1200 ? Water-Cooling an Icon

The last paragraph has an interesting thing regarding the dash.. they are using the TFT LCD dash from the Pani. The thing that worries me though and seems to be a known issue with many of folks here is the dash fogging up inspite of the Pani having the glass windscreen.

In the case of the Monster 1200, there is no fairing or windscreen and the dash is exposed to moisture and rain directly so they better put something that is far more resistant to condensation and fogging else they are going to have a lot of unhappy Monster 1200 owners out there next year coming in for dash replacements.

So, I didn't see any pricing yet... but I would personally be cross shopping a bike like this with the KTM super duke, which has 180hp and 106 lb-ft versus 145hp and 92 lb-ft on the new Monster 1200s... Unless the Monster costs considerably less, or you just love the look better, that's a hard sell

i am not sure. i mean 145 HP should already be intimidating to most, so what are 180 on a naked bike then? what counts on the road is available torque and its characteristics , not just the numbers. i am too lazy to look up the weight of the super duke, but a light monster with this kind of performance, while being a design icon is hard to beat.
i admit though, the superduke prototype gave me a :D , the monster is just a monster ;) i think it's an awesome bike though. will try to get a test ride on one as soon as they are out.

it looks like they're making the monster more streetfighterish. Still kind of long in the tooth in the looks dept.

A&R quotes $13495 for the base and $15995 for the S. Also the dash display style changes quite a bit with the riding mode which I personally feel is a nice touch. Below are links to photos for how the dash looks..
