NEW 1200 monster in 2014

i am not sure. i mean 145 HP should already be intimidating to most, so what are 180 on a naked bike then? what counts on the road is available torque and its characteristics , not just the numbers. i am too lazy to look up the weight of the super duke, but a light monster with this kind of performance, while being a design icon is hard to beat.
i admit though, the superduke prototype gave me a :D , the monster is just a monster ;) i think it's an awesome bike though. will try to get a test ride on one as soon as they are out.

I definitely hear where you are coming from, and I think the new Monster is gorgeous too. And I also agree that around town 145hp is more than enough for me from a functional standpoint. The engineer in me just likes when other engineers get the most out of there engines... I'm in powertrain design in the auto industry right now, and there's a sense of pride when an engine my company designs is top in it's class... and VERY embarrassing when we release a new engine that is less powerful/efficient than an older engine in the same class (usually due to upper managment decisions or lack of funding). To me, this engine seems to now fall in the latter catagory, which is just hard to swallow for me personally, even though it's still plenty powerful from a functional standpoint. :)

It actually says CV.. so its slightly less than 145HP ... :(

The engine spec for the base model says 100.7kW or 135CV. On straight conversion of kW to hp (multiply by 1.34) you get 134.98hp so the CV and hp values are kinda the same..

However the calculation of the CV value is different.. it also takes into consideration the CO2 emissions and uses a weird formula mentioned below... This unit is used mainly in France and Italy..

CV = (P/40)^1.6 + U/45

where P is the peak power output in kW and U is the CO2 emission in gms/km.

Ducati says the 2014 Monster 1200 S is equipped with the same breaks as in Panigale.

It's a gorgeous rendition and a breath of fresh air compared to the previous Monster designs (post S2R/S4R modeling), which I found slightly disappointing. The price seems fair for the features and power figures provided. Well done, Ducati.

Whats the price??

Ducati says the 2014 Monster 1200 S is equipped with the same breaks as in Panigale.

The rear cylinder manifold looks like it could have some potential problems. That heat shield over it appears to be directly in the path of lower leg/knee.

I'd echo what some others have said - Monster is starting to look a little dated compared to other current generation of naked bikes (Brutale, Speed Triple, Tuono, SuperDuke, etc.)

(Disclaimer - I've never really been a monster fan so take it for what you will)

Looks pretty nice to me. This or the tard could be my 2nd: daily rider.... (in summer & hot days). Yeah, I know.... what heat?!?

Am i missing something here, or does the monster 1200 not have a gear indicator??

I couldn't find any info that the monster has one, neither on any of the photos of the dash.
That's pretty ridiculous considering it has the same dash as the panigale.

Anybody got any infos or pics to prove me wrong??
