New 1299 S owner

Hi, I just bought a 2016 1299 S with 4k miles all stock and in like new condition. I have wanted a Ducati for a long time. I started out looking for a 998 then kept working my way up through the models until I got to the 1198S. I thought that was the one to have. The Ducati dealer in Marin County had a 1098S for sale and I went down to have a look at it. The bike was beautiful. Then I sat on the 1299S they had, and the one I ended up buying, and it was love at first sight.
A couple of quick first impressions
- Best bike I've ever owned, and I have had 40 plus bikes over the years.
- It feels so compact and solid with high build quality.
- The amount of heat coming off the engine is hard to get used to.
- I thought I would feel cramped with the high rear sets, but it is actually pretty comfortable. I'm 6'0". The bars are really low and a lot of weight is on my wrists. I'd like to find a way to raise the bars.
- The handling is superb. Turn in is sharp and the bike goes where I point it. I was riding on somewhat bumpy country roads and the suspension absorbed mid corner bumps very well and stayed on line. Great stuff.
- Draws lots of attention. People look at me like I'm rich, maybe because I was wearing a velvet smoking jacket.

Both street and some track days. I also have a 2016 Husqvarna 701 enduro. I don’t think much can be done about the heat, but it would be more comfortable if I could raise the bars
 
The heat is impressive. The issue with the heat is how it blows while riding at speed. I've yet to begin to deal with it as I have been working on a few more "pressing" issues, like the crappy seat. Lol

Over all it is a fantastic bike and is staring to live up the reasons why I bought it. Handling and eSuspension.
 
The V2 Pani is an amazing machine and you have the sorted model, the heat is impressive as AmpForE said and the bars are low but nice and wide and the more you hit the track all will become clear. Enjoy that amazing design!
 
I removed my rear cylinder covers for better ventilation and hadn't much issue since then but I'm pretty tolerant to heat. If doing track days, contact phl, or whom ever you wish, to get the race drilled bolts for the various parts such as valve covers as theyre prone to back out.
 
S'funny, coming from a more older school 996, whenever I've sat on or had brief rides on a Pani, I was struck by how high the bars felt. I come away thinking "well I have to be lowering those when I finally get my own Pani..."
 
One thing that should help to control the heat at least in stop and go traffic is to get cooling fan to start earlier. I received latest Bren Tuning map with early fan on features last week and was quite impressed. I have only ridden the bike once ~100 km in city and back roads but I did not see temperatures above 95/96 degree Celsius where I would have had temperatures around 103 – 105 degrees earlier. I also have those rear CH covers removed (for better air circulation as well as better look) and do not feel heat as an big issue. Another big bonus with latest BT map was that the midrange jerky was almost completely gone (as my bike 1199 S still was a bit jerky with the old map from May 2017).

totally agree with you, the bars on the 996/8 felt like they ran through the front wheel spindle. They were great bikes :)

this is not a problem...make sure the cats are gone, and keep the bike moving, traffic is not your friend (not even a simple traffic light is either)

at 6.0 you should be ok...try balancing your weight around between the pegs and seat...like you would on a dirt bike...it will help, i'd leave the bars alone....(traffic is not your friend)
