Hold the bus.Fake .... are a must. I cannot imagine having to go through that many models to find one with a stock set that had all the rest of the pieces. My wife is 20 years my jr and has them. All the girlfriends for the last 12 years have had them. At this point they are like rear sets. You don't even have to think about it. Now there are good builds and poor builds and $$ talks. I got the MotoGP spec .... package. You need at least WSBK spec to get good performance. Is it a poor investment? who gives a rats .... They are big and bouncy and bring smiles to the many faces that gawk at them. Its my contribution to the happiness of others. Shout out to Dr Larry in Honolulu for the build.

This SL makes me feel like I'm a poor man pretending I own a Panigale :(

Out of my price range and league :)

SL also comes with a pass for 1 free ride on a WSBK spec Panigale at some track in Europe that won't suck. And SL owners get some invitation-only .... on the side that they like to keep on the DL.

Noticed the hybrid Aluminum/Carbon swingarm at the Long Beach moto show. Felt a little hoodwinked, as this was supposed to be the worlds first all carbon frame/swingarm.

How to make me feel so not very special and unimportant lol

Yea not sure why they would not have contracted the guys who make CF swingarms to do the work. They did the wheels. Who knows. BST is supposed to make a 1199/1299 swingarm 2017 and unless they deviate from what they did on the 1098/1198 it will be all cf. Man I would hate to tag the side of that thing in a fall. I dont even want to know what a replacement swingarm from Ducati would be. Then again you could always put the CF cover on it, uh never mind.

I don't get all the this bike is not worth it crap.............Then don't buy it. This bike is created for those who can and want an insanely Factory and not backyard mechanic bike. The S the is an overrated Base, the R is an overrated S, and no the SL talk is getting old, just a hint they will sell, and probably made this bike to fund the 2018 replacement who knows. But enough with the cry babies and complainers.

Back yard mechanic bike? Not sure who you have working on your ride. You should maybe check your facts a little better. There are guys on this board who have built some pretty impressive bikes and they did so because they had the money and skill sets to do so. I would take a bike built by anyone of these guys over an OEM from Duc any day. I don't see anyone hating on the bike at all. Its a bad ... bike for sure.

Not true. It's not an aluminum swinger with carbon wrap, it's a carbon swinger with aluminum lugs.

so like most other "cf" swingarms, this is just a fancy carbon wrap LOL; but on the bright side it is way safer than a true cf swingarm and bst will be risking people's lives with their product.
oh well.....

False.

See above.

Dude, you are really loosing sleep over this bike. Ever since this bike has been announced, you've been going on and on about how much of a waste of money it is.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you for the most part, and your arguement is sound.

That being said, there has to be a point where you just say "this bike isn't for me" and move on.

I'm personally fascinated by cutting edge materials and engineering and that, I believe, is what this model showcases. I love dissecting each and every change that comes out with a new model. Some changes can be eye candy and some can be lessons learned on the track that add to the performance of the bikes we all love. I've ported over bits and pieces from the newer 'R models (I have a '14) that have really helped how the bike behaves. Had I not been obsessing over the changes to the newer models I may have just settled for what I had and lived with the quirks. Obsessing over things you love can be quite fun!

I'm willing to bet that 'endodoc' pays attention to these kinds of developments for some of the same reasons...:)

Oh and apparently I can sit on the bike and fire it up...

tell him to clear wrap the bottom of the cf swingarm to prevent stone chips which might lead to failure ;)

bike looks good, but shouldn't that silver stripe on the tank have continued into a tapering line on the bodywork to better tie the motif in?

like so:

windows print screen

i'm actually not a fan of paintwork design tbh -- they could lose the stripes and make it more elegant....

it's a hybrid. & it doesnt matter anyhow, it's eyecandy over function = stupid.

Yeah so it's not a "hybrid" whatever that means. It's a carbon swingarm with aluminum inserts. No swingarm is ever (in the reasonable future) going to be literally 100% carbon, you have to put metal where the hub, shock attachment, and engine attachment points are. There is no aluminum sub-structure running through it. It's not a sandwich construction, or a wrap. It's a full carbon swingarm. As for the function it saves around 2 pounds over the aluminum one, you can judge for yourself whether that's stupid or worth it, but it's not just for looks.

Chaotic summarized it best. These bikes' limits are so far beyond what most of us approach. The 1299 SL's overarching value is as a collectible.

If you've got an 1199 SL, a Panigale R, or a 1299 S and lots of cash to throw at it, you can make something that equals or betters the 1299 SL in pure performance terms.

But then again, you could spend even less and buy an actual race bike that would smoke them all on track.

It's not about pure performance anymore. It's about what floats your boat. Buy what you like and enjoy it.

the comparison is over the 1199sl, whose magnesium swingarm is almost same weight as this cf one, and far safer over time.

The 1199 SL didn't have a mag swingarm, it was aluminum. You can believe me, I'm their former product manager so I know what I'm talking about with these bikes.
