hey guys, 2nd post and by far loving this forum more the the others.

abit of a intro.

i have owned 3 bikes in the past with all different setups
Used Aprilia RS250, Used Honda CX550, New Suzuki GSXR750.

these were all my warm ups to owning what could be my last bike.
i dont have a big pay wage as most would think it takes to own one of these machine. why last machine you ask? well i have a home to pay off and other future commitments

i been saving up past 10months for this bike and so far about 8k savings
by end of next year i plan to get this bike weather be 2013 or 2014 model
panigale S or SP or wateva in that line with ABS. or used 2012.

the big old question that i would love to ask people is NEW or USED?
my missus tell me NEW as this could be my last ownership to a motorcycle.
but saving 5k is so tempting for a 1year old bike.

First off welcome!!! If you're talking just about the Pani listen to your wife and go new. The bike is only going to get better and the used offerings on the market when you're ready to buy will all be first year models. Not that that's a bad thing but..... its a first year model with quirks ;). However, if you do decide to go the pre-owned route, like anything else do your homework on the bike. Make sure all of its services/recalls have been performed by someone reputable and that it's document. Be prepared for the cost of ownership (i.e. services, tires, accessories etc). If you're like most of us the last one can kill ya lol. But whichever rout you decide, get what you want and don't settle. After all you are possibly talking about the last bike you'll own ;)

Last bike? Unless your 87 years old that is far fetched. More likely it will be your last because your wife told you to stop riding ;)

As far as new vs used, it depends on your wallet and the used deals out at time of purchase.

well like i said depends on financial situation.
and it mite not be 100% accurate but it be a bike for sure 10years +

dont forget im the average male who loves alot of other stuff.
cars traveling ps3 computer house list goes on

remember i own a average wage and me spitting out 28k(36k in AUS) every 10years isnt gonna be easy.

Make some sacrifices dude. I"m sure ya wont die if ya lose the PS3 lol. Getting one of these babies new is an event, wont be the same as buying used. If its a keeper for 10 years then you want a virgin, not something thats been raped hard. Sacrifices chief, thats what ya gonna have to make. Keep smiling.:D

cheers supduc

i am making alot of that, hench why im saving so well or what seems so well to me lol
i think ill be at home or on the road for next 2 years after ownership
gotta keep those mods coming after

nothing beats the smell of a new bike (although we know its thrashed in factory).. or a first date.

not to mention you will be getting all the latest revision on the date you buy it.. the 1199 will only get better. I believe some of the members already got the 31 July revision which has a different right fairing.

.. and you also do not know what the previous owner has done to it. once you start getting problems with it, you might start cursing the previous owner because you have no idea just whose fault is it, you, the previous owner, or the bike. you may save 5k, but you may end up paying more for broken parts.

I would say new.

Considering your financial situation (as well as your ability to save and delay gratification), wait. Compared to other bikes, you're pretty much guaranteed that a Ducati was properly serviced and cared for. In a year there will be a lot of 1000 or less mile 1199s to choose from, many with hudreds or thousands in upgrades.

I disagree. It really depends on who you are buying from. If its a grown man and someone who knows his stuff - yes.

Over here, we have quite a number of ducatis driven by young kids who happen to have rich parents - and they know nuts about their bike.

If the money is tight, then hang on a bit..... don't forget we are all in the "0 series" currently..... things are going to get better, but I do 2nd most above..... go new.......;)

Do it when you have the money or don't do it.......

That day will come and it will be all the more special to you personally when you are in a position to enjoy and don't feel you are over stretching !! :D

I think all of us here would agree though, that Ducati ownership is not cheap, and is more like buying any other exotica - the entry ticket is just that - the entry ticket. They aren't cheap to run, replace parts on, or upgrade.

All of which comes naturally with ownership.

Don't stretch so much you are terrified to ride it hard and wear it out - otherwise you just aren't getting the full impact. They are great bikes, I love mine, but they aren't a cheap hobby......

Worth the coin though - as clearly everyone here thinks. Life is short. Do it if you possibly can......
