Hi Folks,

I've just joined club red and have a few questions about various things. Apologies if these have been answered elsewhere, a basic search didn't show me anything.

Q1. is it common for the brake fluid to go totally brown ? I just bought a 4/18 model and it looked like coffee. I took it straight back to the dealer and they tried to tell me "oh yeah all the brembo master cylinders discolour like that" - sounds like horseshit to me. Thoughts ?

Q2. how do most people find the ....... side stand ? :)

Q3. Any other advice ?

Thanks

Robert

I think something about the hoses in the stock brembo master setup does discolor the fluid. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're experiencing a loss in braking power.

I use my heel to find it behind the foot peg. With racing boots, since the heel part is too slick to really get a grip on the stand, I use my toe to find the adjustment bolt that sticks out around halfway down it.

Be gentle with the quickshifter, don't stomp on it like a bunch of idiots do. I'm at 7k miles on what was literally the first base model V4 to come to the west coast, have done a few track days, commute on it, and have never had an issue with the quickshifter. If it doesn't want to shift right away, just keep light pressure on it and let it shift when it wants to.

Wheelie control is extremely intrusive. It won't let much happen until you set it to 3 or so.

Keep an eye on your clutch lever. Mine would go soft ever so slowly, to the point of not even noticing it until it would be fully pulled in and the bike would want to move forward. Bleeding it real quick (takes like 1-2 minutes) fixed it, but it stopped happening after Ducati did a full master/slave rebuild on warranty.

Don't have a V4, but a 959..... From my experience and lots of other stories the fluid discolors very quickly, mine wayyyy before the 600 mile service. They flushed/bled the front, rear and clutch and they have not discolored any more than usual over the last 1200 miles.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think the bike I bought has already had the clutch warranty upgrade - the fluid was all clear in that one.

Yes I'm reading the manual and plan to disable wheelie control, that's super annoying, especially when my other bike is a KTM SD1290

Q - is there a workshop manual for this bike available anywhere ? I like to tinker, or at least know how to do things to it. Right now I think I found the oil sight glass but not sure about water etc.

Thanks guys

I'd advise against doing gentle stuff with the quickshifter and instead use the quickshifter as it's intended, with a normal but firm use. I've been gentle with the quickshifter quite a few times just to not have it engage properly and hitting neutral.

But I've never had an issue of the QS not wanting to change gear (refusing the change). Don't know if this is an issue of the QS on the V4.

Not on the front brakes but my rear reservoir turned black pretty fast. Was the bike you purchased sitting outside on display as that could be the cause.

Q2. how do most people find the ....... side stand ? :) I do not have an issue I just use my heal.

Q3. Any other advice ? Enjoy the bike as I think it is great.

By gentle I mean normal/firm. I've seen a lot of guys ....... stomp on the damn thing and then wonder why they are having to replace sensors.

The easiest way I found to get the side stand down is if you look straight down at the left side you will see on the inside of the fairing down the bottom 2 small studs think they hold heat shielding or something like that.
Anyway if you turn your foot out and use your heel inline with those studs just slide the back of the boot against the fairing gently then go down 9/10 times you will pick up the side stand pin and down she goes.

Thats the way I do it on my V4 now my 848 is a different animal that does have you looking like a mangy dog scratching to get the sidestand down....

Sadly I just have resorted to using my left hand to get the kickstand down, its fairly easy for me 6'2" and long arms, it's easier than finding the kickstand "nub" with my size 14 boots with out scratching the fairing...

A person I know that has a 2018 Panigale V4 Speciale screwed off the nub ( for lack of a better word) that you use to kick down the kickstand and installed a longer nub. I sat on the bike with boots and didn't have any problem getting the kickstand down. The owner doesn't either after installing the longer one.

I put an after market extender on mine. I did not have an issue before but it is a little longer & wider.

Hi Rob

I bought an aftermarket side stand bobbin in machine billet aluminium from Desmoworld in Germany for my V4. After being frustrated in the test ride with the stand I turned to YouTube and found a guy in the USA reccomending this product. It's a must for less than €20

Cheers Adrián
