I’ve run Michelin evo slicks and DOTs, Dunlop GPAs and will be trying the rs11 soon. For the street, they are all fine. Black and round as they say.

It comes down to what you want to do, or your main purpose of use. I have the Pirelli triple compound on mine, but I do a lot of commuting and hook curves on the way home through some twisties. If you’re more on the track or canyons, you may want softer ones.

Ive had lots of supercorsas V2 & 3 both 55 and 60 profile. Never mind the wear which is pretty ridiculous if you're on it, they feel very sure footed and suit the bike particularly the 60 profile v3's. Tried M7's- they melt when you push, tried Rosso Corsa 2's which are probably my favourites for general riding. The local bike shop suggested I try the RS's initially they felt good but for some reason not overly confidence inspiring and the other day I went for a ride on my favorite road which is mostly 3rd and 4th gear with a lot of turns and the back stepped out several times on a couple of 180-200k corners. Never had that with Pirellis, I stopped and checked them, pressure is ok about 33 worn to the edge but not over it. Balls of rubber all over the tire which seemed too many compared to the Pirellis. Maybe its just my setup /pressures/riding style but I wont be buying them again, back to supercorsas for me.
Definitely Pirellis of some sort.

I’ve never gone away from Pirellis, only ones I’ve had on all my bikes. They cost a bit more, but you’re sure happy you paid when you need them.

Id like to give a report on a tire that was sold to me by a local shop. I thought Id try Michelin Power RS late last year and I've given my report on it, and after swearing to the gods of grip that I would return to Pirelli the same bike shop told me that the new Michelin Power 5 was an upgrade and a far, far superior tire plus they gave me an absolute killer deal so I thought what the hell.

The power 5 totally sucks on a 1299 and by the looks of it it would totally suck for about 10,000ks. It slides and squirms, it feels horrible and any application of power gets it moving. Do not buy this tire unless you plan on a long tour and dont need edge grip.

A bit more on street tires for the 1299, there is no doubt that the standard Supercorsas are the best tires for the bike, maybe the 200/60's are even better. Sure they lack a bit of wet performance but seriously who plans to go wet weather riding on a 1299. They are simply not that much fun in the wet.

I have a new set of Rosso Corsa II's on it now and all I can say is what a great compromise. Longer lasting and unless you are really pushing it they are hard to out ride (within reason)

I switched from the V2 to the Rosso Corsa II’s. Because I had the dealer order and put them on I forgot to tell them to pit on the 60. But I actually really like the RCII. The bike is not at as twitchy and feels a bit more planted. I get the sense that it’s slightly heavier than the V2 but I have no evidence of that fact.

What was interesting was the weight difference, RCII's were a lot heavier and stiffer than the Michelins. The case on the RC was significantly stiffer, Im not a tire expert but that would tend to suggest that the movement i complained with the Michelins was inherent in its case design and probably meant it was very sensitive to pressure. The extra weight of the RCII's probably gives the feeling of stability, and on that note whats the point of paying for carbon rims if you don't check the weight of the rubber?

The Supercorsas are lighter but I can shred them in 1000 miles no problem, at that rate whenever I fill up, I know I've spent more of rubber than gas! Not so great for a street bike...

I was running the recommended pressures and 2.1 and 2.3bar, or lower for thousands of k's but I've finally come around to thinking that's too low for the street and its contributing to early tire wear. Even when you think your pushing hard, there's a lot of coasting you cant get the pressures up enough so I'm trying 2.6 F & R. So far so good :)

Oh wow you’re absolutely right, my service writer told me to up the pressure, didn’t think anything of it until you just said that, thank you!!

Track, asked around and there is debate over hot or cold tear. I think its cold tear on the soft compound. Started out at 28psi, cold day 9 degrees C. Session 1 was ok in fact looked perfect but i wasnt going hard due to the track temp, but session 2 looked a bit like this and hot pressure was 36, a tire expert said add 2psi to 38 hot and it got progressively worse as the day went on.

I think you had too much pressure in it.
