It’s a crap engine? I thought it was supposed to have very good drive out of turns.

Obviously the platform hasn’t been developed much for some years. I’ve no idea if the electronics are good or not. I doubt they are up to Ducati’s level but the R1 does seem to be very popular at track days.

Did you watch 2023 Portimao ? When Toprak lost 2 times on drive out of the turn to Bautista ?
Most 2023 ? When Bautista was driving out to a straight much faster than Toprak.

R1 engine hasnt been refreshed in 3-4 years I think.

True, but none of us are racing and none of us are riding like Toprak. Based on the performances I've seen so far we should all be wanting a BMW... I wonder if Bautista would have been doing that last year if he had been carrying the additional weight that is now on the bike.

Not being the best engine doesn't make it crap. It certainly hasn't had any development effort for some time though, as far as I am aware.

Out of interest, has the V4 been developed significantly since it first came out? That's not the start of an argument by the way - it's a question...

ok if Toprak and Bautista got you into "none of us racing as they are" type of mood, here are some random BSB STK bulletins from 2021 onwards

R1 is dead

It was a good bike in 2019, not anymore, its the future now.

Where are you on that list? Or anyone on here?

I don't think you meant it's the future...

Look how well Honda do on there... what do we take from that? Ducati are well represented as well.

what R1 has to do with me ?

why every argument has to be transformed into is your dick bigger than mine ?

Better track bike is the R1 followed by Fireblade. Best track bike is the GSXR750.

V4 is not a good track bike I’m finding. Too expensive and is too delicate.

My V4 is on its way out the door and will take that $25k and put it towards a “GYTR”-spec R1.

The GSXR750 is one of the best track bikes period but the 959 isnt far off in Ducati world.
The R-1 has a great reputation for being easy to ride fast, good luck.

No one can argue about the GSXR750 but speaking about old tech go ride a 916. Really easy to ride fast. Total confidence inspiring front end. Not much motor so you can just roll it on with your knee barely off the pavement. Twins are more fun to race IMHO.

Someone didn’t take their psych meds. Or pani is actually an Indian or Nigerian tele-scammer

Tell me you love Fentanyl without telling me that you love Fentanyl.

It's not about the tax, it's only 7.7% and I paid it in fact.
It's about wasted time at the customs to get a stamp into a Carnet times 2.
3.30hrs to mugello in the normal car one way. Probably 6hrs in the van via customs.

Also, all this loading and unloading is so daunting when you do frequent events. It's fun 2-3 times a year when a track day is a big event, but it's unfun when you have 10 events in 4 months

Would be cool if Ducati would do this or just open the Corse catalog to the public like pretty much every other manufacturer does.

This rsv4 is a nice bike, but I would expect a bit higher spec than FKR forks, MS calipers, and production level ecu/harness for 80k euros. The hp4 race was similar money and was considerably higher spec (FGR forks, built motor, near wsbk electronics).

I don’t think opening up the Corse catalog would help much…1st they have F*ck you pricing on all their stuff…as in “f*ck you I don’t want to sell it but at this crazy price maybe”

2nd I knows guys that have access to it and you place the order and a year later you still don’t have your parts.

Can’t remember the guys name, but there is a dude that runs in MotoAmerica on a Superstock spec Fireblade that he runs in both the Superstock and Superbike classes with the Superstock spec.

So he’s holding his own mid-field in the Superbike races on a Superstock Fireblade…every time I see that it impresses the .... out of me.

I bet that’s an awesome track day bike, and especially if you are on the smaller side

I heard the fireblade is one of the best superstock bikes you can get, the results in MA and BSB confirm that. The new 2025 is even better with split throttle bodies, softer frame and better gearing. I'm strongly considering to switch from Ducati to Honda in a year. We'll see how the racing goes next year on the V4.

@Steven31371 being mid pack in the superbike class is impressive. How does he do in the stock 1000 class with that bike?

I can’t remember if it was Uribe or Gillim that did double duty with the same bike in Superstock and super bike, but the place 1st and 2nd on Honda’s in the superstock 1000’s championship.

Ducati has FU prices on everything. I have an exhaust valve in the motor I'm working on that has probably too deep of pitting (from the motor being run lean) on the valve face to be saved. $290 for an exhaust valve. Ludicrous. If the Germans keep forcing Ducati to do this they will eventually lose all their customers. Bought a junk head off of flea bay just to have spare parts. Everyone was sort of wondering why nobody seems to want to blueprint these, there's the reason. Rings, bearings, gaskets, seals etc to do a basic overhaul exceeds $2000. Then if you need anything else... If one were to do these as a job you'd have to quote at least $10K to blueprint if everything's useable. Doing one of these right is 40-50 hrs if you already have all the fixturing built.
