New SL for 2017 ?

I just got back from talking to my dealer and he confirmed the $80k price tag and that it will be a twin.

Phl is pretty close. 1299. All CF bodywork. BST is making the wheels. Ducati is/was working on a CF frame but I was told that it was not going so well. BST is not making the swingarm but Ducati has or is toying with a CF version. THe motor on this bike is not a V4. It is rumored to have a different casting to the engine case but i do not think so. They are going to struggle to make any more power outside of the ECU and exhaust. If they mod the motor in the traditional way which is what I did (Fox crank, Carrillo rods, pistons, Ti valves, flow and match the heads etc) they can get 225 hp out of it and spin it up a bit more as the crank and rod weight reduction is significant. If they are decent about it (they are not going to be) they would go to the Corse shelves and slap some decent pieces on there. They would use the Brembo EVO stuff and give you real SB forks. Typically they are going to give you some cool stuff and then .... the bed by not finishing what they started (stock brakes on the Desmo etc comes to mind) The biggest issue with these builds is that they overcharge the .... out of you by the perception that your getting an unobtainium bike when in reality, you can duplicate the bike for a lot less $$ and get better parts. That's if your really after the "bike". If your after what you perceive is a collectors piece because of the numbering, then go for it. Just remember all the Desmo's that sold for 80K in some parts that are struggling to fetch mid 40's now. If you have 80K to spend, I would get a motor ($4500.00), frame ($2500.00) and swingarm($500.00) off ebay ($7500.00), take the remaining $72500.00 and build a bike that would in every way crush whatever Ducati is going to deliver. That is provided you have the ability to do so of course. But that's just me.

You could also get a 1299 base, invest 5 k in a good track setup and probably be as fast as on an SL, or what Ducati is coming out with.

Unless you are a really really really eally really really eally really really eally really really eally really really good rider to feel and make the difference.

Had my buddy ride my slightly modded 1199 base today. We talked about the new SL then. He was like: what for? :D I said : good point :D

Either way Ducati must hurry up now. Such kind of bike must be sold to customers this year. At least in Europe with 2017 the "80dB no-flapper valve & Euro 4"-era begins!

Phl makes another excellent point. The problem with Phl's point however is that it revolves around practicality and logic which is probably out the window on this bike. I built my 1299 out out of sheer lunacy. A bone stock 1299 is way more capable than I will ever be. I was also told this new bike will have a more enhanced electronics package (gyro). Yuck. I wish I could have built a mechanical 1299 without all this goofy crap on it. Im sure the next Ducati offering will just ride itself. You will be able to send your bike out without you.

At what point does it all become silly? Same situation in the Navy when I started working with the AWG 9 and Phoenix systems where we could engage multiple targets BVR. The electronics changes everything and Im pretty sure If I was forced to compete in a manual/analog aircraft that i would have been eliminated quickly. I have to believe that the skill sets of the rider are somewhat altered having all the "goodies" turned on. I think the guys here who learn and perfect skills without the electronics for sure have an edge in the "skills" dept. i get the safety thing but I think it was probably a different kind excitement level riding the 500GP bikes vs today's bikes and I bet the "sack" was a tad larger back then.

I've grown up riding all the big bikes without electronics. When all these rider aids started popping up I thought it just wasn't right. A person should learn how to ride first.
But this stubborn mule is finally softening a bit and looking at electronics as a tool/toy for the experienced rider to play/experiment with.
But I still think that it shouldn't be a babysitter for an inexperienced rider on a big bike.

Either way, interesting stuff. Just how wild will Ducati get with the bikes for us mere mortals?

honestly, I think some of you are thinking way too much with all these philosophical comments...lol. Enjoy or appreciate it for what it is.

I enjoy newly released motorcycles that are coming out and not just this one.

If you don't think it's worth it, don't buy it.
If it is too much tech, then don't buy it.
If you think its ugly, don't buy it.

lol.

I will buy all including this bike if I had the money. I think most of 99% of bikes are cool in their own ways.

I think it's cool to see manufacturers coming out with motorcycles that desirable (to some but not all)....better than nothing coming out at all and we are stuck with same .... every year.

Lol I've taken a sip already. It's the end of my week.

I do enjoy looking over all these new bikes. Look forward to seeing just what Ducati brings us with this one.

Bad part is that my bike list keeps getting longer and longer and longer.

I would have to ride it on the track. It's just the proper thing to do. :D

I'll keep dreaming :)

Btw- if I had 80k burning a hole in my pocket, I'd buy that sucker.

i don't know why but at this stage i'm not excited about this bike. Maybe it's because Ducati are hitting us with a number of special bikes in close proximity it looses the want appeal.

it seems like it was only last yr the SL came out, these types of bikes i thought the release cycle would be 4yrs.

Any ideas on when we will see a mock up.

If we go back and look at this thread (http://ducati1299.com/ducati-1299/25815-2017-ducati-1299-lci.html) that might be the new SL testing, being with the Akra WSBK look alike exhaust, and the carbon rim theory might be correct when looking at the spy shot as the rear rim seems to have metal center carrier where the black spokes attach to, which makes sense when looking at other carbon rims like BST etc which have metal centers.

Just adding some more fuel to the fire :D

That's exactly what I thought!!

I hear also the new SL will have the same paint job too as the current SL
