New SL for 2017 ?

I'd hope it would be a brighter more vibrant orange than the current SL if they go that way.

I've heard it will be more of a matte orange color instead of the fluorescent orange. Also have some different markings than the SL. The new bike is supposed to be much faster than the current SL

I have heard Carbon Fibre Monocoque frame, possible subframe as well and swingarm.....superlighter :D

Phl is pretty close. 1299. All CF bodywork. BST is making the wheels. Ducati is/was working on a CF frame but I was told that it was not going so well. BST is not making the swingarm but Ducati has or is toying with a CF version. THe motor on this bike is not a V4. It is rumored to have a different casting to the engine case but i do not think so. They are going to struggle to make any more power outside of the ECU and exhaust. If they mod the motor in the traditional way which is what I did (Fox crank, Carrillo rods, pistons, Ti valves, flow and match the heads etc) they can get 225 hp out of it and spin it up a bit more as the crank and rod weight reduction is significant. If they are decent about it (they are not going to be) they would go to the Corse shelves and slap some decent pieces on there. They would use the Brembo EVO stuff and give you real SB forks. Typically they are going to give you some cool stuff and then .... the bed by not finishing what they started (stock brakes on the Desmo etc comes to mind) The biggest issue with these builds is that they overcharge the .... out of you by the perception that your getting an unobtainium bike when in reality, you can duplicate the bike for a lot less $$ and get better parts. That's if your really after the "bike". If your after what you perceive is a collectors piece because of the numbering, then go for it. Just remember all the Desmo's that sold for 80K in some parts that are struggling to fetch mid 40's now. If you have 80K to spend, I would get a motor ($4500.00), frame ($2500.00) and swingarm($500.00) off ebay ($7500.00), take the remaining $72500.00 and build a bike that would in every way crush whatever Ducati is going to deliver. That is provided you have the ability to do so of course. But that's just me.

All the Self Development versus a Factory build ......???....not for me....I'd rather sit thru a root canal !! :D

I have heard it will be fitted with tyres that never wear out and are lighter than air itself .

I also heard it doesn't run on gas but some new energy source that never runs out

Perhaps a Flux capacitor

Does it produce steam like every space ship in a sci-fi movie?

Seriously, I wish I could afford one. But the R is my next goal as I could see myself affording one one day. But it's nice to dream and imagine.
I applaud Ducati for constantly making dream bikes to keep the little boy in us all. Who needs Peter Pan?

I think you have a very good point there. I can do basic stuff but I do not know how to rebuild engines.

Well I can pretty much guarantee you that the guys here that are able to build nice bikes from scratch, do their own work and tune and perfect what they have created were not born with that talent. If your not willing to go to the next level and "get involved" then you are relegated to reliance on others. You will always overpay and they will always under deliver. Thats basic economics. It is very rewarding when you take power and control away from others and realize that its relatively simple to navigate your own ship. How many posts populate this board that start out in "panic mode" and are littered with the word "hope" why would you ever give another entity that power when you don't need to. Having someone say "nice bike" is a whole lot different experience than "holly ...., you built that" Dig in. I guarantee its worth it.

Agree 100%. I have even posted on this site before that I encourage guys to have a go rather than pay dealers. When I have more time in retirement I will certainly go the next step and learn more about the engines.

When I was 18 in 1979 I put new valves, pistons and rings in a 1976 Kawasaki Z900. It all went well until I put two teeth out on the camchain and bent all my brand new valves. You only learn from trying.

....i can appreciate all that goes along with "the build" on any project..the self satisfaction, self gratification, self indulgence of self :)

- for me...and i know not everyone, but for me...i'd rather ride the bike, enjoy what the engineers have done relish in the fact that i have it/own it/am riding it....as opposed to then lament the details of Ducati (or any other brand) and try to equal or better them...(most usually in vain)

all the power to those that undertake such projects....(some of them remind me of 8th Grade science projects)....in the mean time, i'll be riding....hopefully burning off set(s) of tires before the project bike ever turns a wheel

im not an engineer or mechanic....just a rider....its like this: does a dentist do his own dental work "just because he can" ? :) -- i know i'm not doing my own root canals, even if i could !!

Reminds me when I rebuild my first motor at 16 yrs old. Put everything back together and immediately spun bearings. I didn't know you were suppose to drill the crank journal plugs to flush out the oil passages. I thought it came back from the machine shop ready to go. Live and learn. It was an expensive lesson.

I agree with you. At least right now when I have a job and only have certain amount of time on other things like enjoying the bike and track. Maybe when I retire and have more time, I probably take on harder mechanic tasking.
