Tommy Hayden: "Although this is obviously a sad time, we would like everyone to remember Nicky at his happiest - riding a motorcycle. He dreamed as a kid of being a pro rider and not only achieved that but also managed to reach the pinnacle of his chosen sport in becoming World Champion. We are all so proud of that."

This bummed me out today. We're the same age and I literally started getting in to bicycling again this year. Sticking to trails, like other have said. Followed him since before I could get my own first motorcycle. Was hoping to actually be able to meet him at a race to check off the bucket list. Sadly, it will be left unchecked forever. RIP Nicky
