Help Support Ducati Forum:

Jim - I must say I am quite amazed you have as many bikes as you do, if you put this much effort into a decision. I fell in love, ordered it. Period. No to mention it's a Ducati, it's the best they have. So if you love Ducati as a company, the bike wouldn't matter.

I know you will do as you wish, and that's fine, I only ask that you not jump in and critisize a bike you don't even own. I would never go to a Harley forum and make fun of "Hardley Drivables". I might lurk, ask questions if I was truly wanting a model, but then I have done my own research on the 30 or so bikes/cars I have owned over the years, not ask a handful of forum folks over many weeks their opinions.

PS Welcome to respond, but my last words on the subject in this abused thread :)

You got me thinking after my last post about what you said here. Bear with me. I find your comment about loving Ducati as a company so you buy their bike in spite of it's faults (to paraphrase) somewhat interesting. I have never been into loyalty to a company. I've been repeat buyer of cars and motorcycles in the past, but I really don't care about a company or the past. I care about how the vehicle fits my needs.

From there I realized that while I don't care about the company, I am loyal almost to a fault to people. The reason I am primarily interested in the Ducati is because of my friendship with the dealer. For anyone who cares, Ronnie Lunsford - owner of Northwest Honda in Houston is who I am referring to. If you know nothing about him you might google him. I have a strong desire to buy from him if he has something that is in the range of what I want.

In the case of the Panigale, I can honestly say it would not be my first choice if not for Ronnie. But I have the good fortune of being able to afford multiple motorcycles and in a bassackwards way, the Panigale is actually perfect. I don't need the bike to be the one I put 300+ miles on every Saturday or take on my once a year eight day, 4000 mile trips. I need it to be my "mistress" that I sneak out at 7:00 on Sunday morning and ride 140 miles and be home at 10:00 or so - and my wife hardly knows I'm gone (I'm not kidding, I do that most Sundays and I do ride 300+ miles virtually every Saturday).

Thinking of the Panigale in the same vein makes perfect sense. A mistress can have flaws because there is no intent to marry. You just want something that looks really smoking hot and gives you....well, let's just say it gives you what your wife won't. In my case the Panigale would give me what my Ninja 1000 or BMW won't (and can't!).

Heat doesn't bother me. But I am finding it hard to ride with this huge throbbing erection. (Courtesy of Archer)

That's why its often referred to as a ...."Pornigale"....ok....that sucked...but ya know...it is a....Hot thread....

there shall be no sneaking out with your Pani unless you roll it down hill and start it a 1/4 of a mile away the house.

Just having fun with you before JJ....its a great bike. Throw some leathers on and the heat won't ever be an issue....(how can your mistress not be hot or not give you problems??)

.... the neighbors (can I say that here?). Actually, that is a good point. Hmmm maybe some good exercise - I only have to push it about 500 feet to clear the neighborhood.

Let me be clear and serious. I don't consider what I'm doing as criticizing the bike. I'm simply stating one of the drawbacks that is well known and documented. I rode the bike, I felt the heat and it was the worst heat I've ever felt on a motorcycle. I have owned WAY more cars and motorcycles than most people and I have never owned one that did not have something about it I didn't like.

The reason I get a little fired up in my responses is when owners get overly defensive and I feel other potential owners may not be getting an objective view of the vehicle. While I'm not the smartest person in the world, and I'm realistic about that - I'm really not. But nor am I stupid. I know that folks on forums don't like non-owners coming in and making negative remarks. I fully expect people to get pissed at me. But I still feel like I'm contributing based upon my years of experience (started riding in 1971) and my willingness to give the good bad and the ugly.

I know you have seen my past posts for a couple of months now. My quick update is this. The Concours sold a couple of weeks ago, the Goldwing is still for sale at the Honda/Ducati dealer...you'll recall that the owner of that dealer is guy I became friends with over 30 years ago when I got into racing. I am not going to make a final decision on the Ducati until the GW sells at which point I can use it for a trade. I honestly don't know which way I'll go right now.

But believe this - if the heat or any other issue with the Panigale was a show stopper for me I would not be following this forum any more. I am very active on four other motorcycle forums - all of which I have been an owner, and three or four car forums all of which I have also been an owner. I don't have any need to "lurk" on forums of which I am not an owner or am seriously considering becoming an owner.

Look, MY pani is a ....... piece of .... and she only has 600 miles on her. However She's a blast to ride, and turns peoples heads, (when its not stalling, leaking or not starting) She's a Ducati and it just is what it is. No one forced me to buy it, no one told me it was the most reliable bike in the world, and i still bought it.

Yes i get pissed that a 20k bike is doing the stupid .... that it is, and i do expect more from a company like Ducati but the jury is still out on my final thoughts until i see if the ........ can be fixed or not. However to date, the heat hasn't bothered me yet because its been a cool winter here in florida and i find the heat welcome but come summer if this heat shield isn't the "end all fix all" ill probably be on here bitching and riling Trauma up some more about the heat issue as well.

Bottom line is I have a Ducati and many don't, so Na Na Na Boo Boo, Stick your head in Doo Doo
