Jim - I must say I am quite amazed you have as many bikes as you do, if you put this much effort into a decision. I fell in love, ordered it. Period. No to mention it's a Ducati, it's the best they have. So if you love Ducati as a company, the bike wouldn't matter.
I know you will do as you wish, and that's fine, I only ask that you not jump in and critisize a bike you don't even own. I would never go to a Harley forum and make fun of "Hardley Drivables". I might lurk, ask questions if I was truly wanting a model, but then I have done my own research on the 30 or so bikes/cars I have owned over the years, not ask a handful of forum folks over many weeks their opinions.
PS Welcome to respond, but my last words on the subject in this abused thread

You got me thinking after my last post about what you said here. Bear with me. I find your comment about loving Ducati as a company so you buy their bike in spite of it's faults (to paraphrase) somewhat interesting. I have never been into loyalty to a company. I've been repeat buyer of cars and motorcycles in the past, but I really don't care about a company or the past. I care about how the vehicle fits my needs.
From there I realized that while I don't care about the company, I am loyal almost to a fault to people. The reason I am primarily interested in the Ducati is because of my friendship with the dealer. For anyone who cares, Ronnie Lunsford - owner of Northwest Honda in Houston is who I am referring to. If you know nothing about him you might google him. I have a strong desire to buy from him if he has something that is in the range of what I want.
In the case of the Panigale, I can honestly say it would not be my first choice if not for Ronnie. But I have the good fortune of being able to afford multiple motorcycles and in a bassackwards way, the Panigale is actually perfect. I don't need the bike to be the one I put 300+ miles on every Saturday or take on my once a year eight day, 4000 mile trips. I need it to be my "mistress" that I sneak out at 7:00 on Sunday morning and ride 140 miles and be home at 10:00 or so - and my wife hardly knows I'm gone (I'm not kidding, I do that most Sundays and I do ride 300+ miles virtually every Saturday).
Thinking of the Panigale in the same vein makes perfect sense. A mistress can have flaws because there is no intent to marry. You just want something that looks really smoking hot and gives you....well, let's just say it gives you what your wife won't. In my case the Panigale would give me what my Ninja 1000 or BMW won't (and can't!).
